Remixes are a major part of the electronic music history. The club culture take off on remixes, some of the greatest dance hits where made from remixing original tracks.
Our primary purpose is to highlight this exercise by offering the opportunity to artists to either work on a remix of their choice or offer a track to be remixed by an artist they admire. It is overseen and curated by independent music lovers and supported by The Absolut Company, a brand that is permanently involved in the field of contemporary arts and creation with a tradition of supporting artists such as Keith Haring and Andy Warhol. The Absolut Remix project is dedicated to the art of combining or editing existing materials, to produce something new.

As a start, every last Friday of the month, we will unveil a new remix, from a newcomer or a legend, from disco to techno or IDM and house music. And more to come...

Now in its second decade, with a steady stream of the most forward thinking and cutting edge techno productions, Drumcode has one of the biggest selections of releases from industry heavy hitters, whilst not forgetting its future by bringing the newest talented producers into the limelight, where Layton Giordani is now a name firmly within that line up.

The New York born, but now EU based producer first had recognition back in 2014, and his debut release came via Drumcode with his track “Rivington” on the A-Sides Vol5 compilation in 2016. 

Consisting of 12 original tracks, the album packs a punch when it comes to no-nonsense techno. Successfully weaving relentless drums and catchy vocal hooks into a selection of thick, brooding, atmospheric tracks.

For their second release @tiffs-joints look to Deoke a.k.a @daveexpansions, London DJ, producer and keys player in Andrew Ashong's live band. A Gregory Porter-esque bassline combines with driving percussion and soft jazz flute.

“Other Worlds” was inspired by a new collage from Sebastian Wahl , which we brought to life with the help of Black Lake Media. The collage shows portals emerge and unfold and evolve within and around a picture frame… a magical gateway, like the wardrobe in The Chronicles of Narnia.

On a sunny day in Brooklyn I sat down with @DorfexBosMusic to write a piece of music to go along with the visuals, and the ideas just came pouring out. We finished the song in 24 hours flat, with various instruments and sounds mapped to various details and dimensions of the various worlds within the collage.

Sirocco is the second EP by Bruxas, the psychedelic, beat-driven, tropical, house group consisting of Jacco Gardner and Nic Mauskovic, featuring the percussive talents of Jungle By Night’s Tienson Smeets. Sirocco features the combined talents of cult retro artist Gardner, and the percussive fortitude of Mauskovic, delving into the world of exotic, cinematic, Balearic-sunshine, that cruises leisurely throughout, and is layered with phazed-out, tropical synths. It’s a sound for the summer. Good vibes only please. 

Following up from last year’s Más Profundo EP, Bruxas return with Sirocco, an EP named after the Mediterranean wind warmed up by the sun drenched Saharan sands. Lead track ’Sirocco’ washes over like a sea current of dreamy, tribal, synth-wave, flowing and ebbing in mixed colours of a psychedelic haze. It teases of something grandiose, which later appears in the form of a club version. Remixed for some secret island hideaway orchestrated by DJ Harvey, 'Sirocco (Club Version)' builds on the resplendent melodies and driving percussion of the original, adding some foot-tapping, devilish keys and retro-progressive synth lines to add subtle, summery tension and flare. 'Hermes’ meanwhile drives along at a casual 100bpm, with a cumbia-styled Casio line, and a jaunty, leisure-like, Latin-groove, and fiesta feel. The final track on the EP, 'Maria’s Holiday' has another up-beat, Casio-styled groove, set alongside a poolside party, with bongo-beat rumblings and a disco rhythm. It’s the soundtrack to a summer cocktail party, to watch the sun slowly set on a tropical fiesta. 

Bruxas is the collaborative project between Jacco Gardner and Nic Mauskovic who joined forces while playing in the support band for the 70s James Brown-meets-Black Sabbath act, Witch. Gardner — having firmly established himself as a credible force within the psych-rock community with two solo LPs and a psych-rock sound — and Mauskovic — whose catalogue includes acts such as Altin Gün, and The Mauskovic Dance Band — teamed up in Portugal with their shared love for library music, and 70s psychedelia, naming their new creation Bruxas — Portuguese for Witch. With a featured appearance booked in at Dekmantel Festival, also featuring Tienson on percussive duties, be sure to note that this will be a big year for the retro-party boys.

It’s been over 10 years since the release of Gui Boratto’s breakthrough full length debut 'Chromophobia'. As to what its title suggests, he shook up the techno game with a contrast of lushly coloured minimal grooves and melody, whilst many will recall that the album included the highlight single “Beautiful Life” which became a dance floor anthem for that era. Four albums in and countless EPs and remixes under his belt, the Brazilian producer's unique savoir-faire in carving out a functional album out of diversely routed singles and features is back at it on his fifth studio LP, 'Pentagram'. Here Gui Boratto lays down a nuanced 12-track narrative that reinvigorates his signature sound into a refreshingly different perspective that feels all too familiar – including the return of “Beautiful Life” vocalist (and Gui Boratto’s wife) Luciana Villanova on the single "Overload".

Through his signature kaleidoscopic approach, Boratto delivers an album built as a far-reaching hub-and-spoke system, broadly inclusive as can be. From the opening cut, 'The Walker' - hot on the trail of Tears For Fears 'Elemental' (one of Boratto’s "favourite 80's bands") - to the hi-NRG euphoria of 'Forgotten' and its pounding tech alter ego 'Forgive Me'. "I was going into 2 different directions", Boratto says; "the typical “indie- electronic-rock” Boratto kind of production like “It’s Majik” or “Like You” and a much more techno approach." He goes on, "I decided to split them into two twin sister songs. When I play live I always put these two songs together."

The Brazilian Producer further embraces the pop-friendly essence of his past work on tracks like 'The Phoenix', featuring vocalist Nathan Berger, and 'Overload', both melding acidulous synthlines with laser-precise breaks, vox hooks and drops calibrated for extended radio and club use, although sieved through his distinctive rainbow-hued musical prism. For the symbolists out there, the album's pared-down closer '618' duration accidentally happens to equate the proportions of the said pentagram. "Coincidence?" Boratto questions, and capsulises, "not so ufanista and supporter of Brazilian neo-concretism, but I guess the brazilian sculptor Lygia Clark also inspired me a lot. Not the meaning of her sculptures, but the shape of the hinge of most of her work. I’ve wanted to transmit the scientific pentagram’s point of view. It’s not a religious kind of thing."

Whereas 'Spur' (a field-tested 808 and 909-heavy "purist track", "very, very old school" Boratto insists) and 'Alcazar' are sheer smooth-edged four-to- the-floor epics, the album also shares its lot of startling moments, such as with the John Barry'esque 'Scene 2' (with a hint of Amon Tobin, 'Easy Muffin' style, throw in) and its refined string-laden buildup, 100% fitted for a 007 opening credit sequence; or with 'Hallucination' (feat B.T.) and the further James Holden-ish title-track 'Pentagram' (think 'The Idiots Are Winning'); "one of those exercises I did when I got my Buchla modular synth" Boratto analyses, "I think I’ve used more then 30 different snares, with different delays and reverbs. The whole song is alive". And so is 'Pentagram' in its entirety: alive and definitely just as manifold and hopeful as its architectonics are the stuff of science and dreams all at once.

As accomplished producers, Session Victim have been intent on delivering a characteristic body of work for uninterrupted play. With ‘Needledrop’, Session Victim have landed with significant inspiration from the lavishly textured and subtly layered jazz and soul compositions that found their way into late 90’s trip hop. Fusing an array of live instrumentation and organic melody, ‘The Pain’ incorporates electronic touches whilst skillfully holding intact a chugging groove, bringing listeners on a hypnotic journey complimented by an echoed soothing vocal sample.

“‘The Pain’, which we wrote at Hauke’s place in Berlin, was one of the last tracks on the album to come together. Right from the start this one had a different vibe that we felt was an essential piece to the overall record, channelling something more serious and urgent but ultimately uplifting” – Session Victim

Directed by Peter Malla, the accompanying video offers a visual representation for the context of the track. Delivering an intimate and cinematic piece shot across London containing an ever-pressing theme and sense of perseverance, optimism and gaining strength through adversity and pain.

Through his physical impairment, his other senses become heightened, bringing a strengthened awareness and grounding, highlighted in the garden scenes. German duo Hauke Freer and Matthias Reiling, are no strangers to releasing quality, long-format albums. Whilst riding through a discerning community of DJs, the pair have previously released three albums on tastemaker label ‘Delusions Of Grandeur’ culminating in 2017’s ‘Listen To Your heart’. 

‘Needledrop’ is their fourth studio album and is set for release on ‘Night Time Stories’, the London based sister label to the coveted ‘LateNightTales’. The release marks a notable shift towards the downtempo dynamic of fellow masters of the LP format, such as Nightmares on Wax and DJ Shadow, artists that have played a strong influence in Session Victim’s varied output over the last decade.
