Now based in the Bay Area, @sisgirlpgh has become a staple of the US queer underground via the close-knit and musically multifaceted Pittsburgh dance music community and through unforgettable sets at festivals like Gays Hate Techno and Honcho Campout. A co-founder of Pittsburgh's MESH, alongside ChadKid and newly minted resident Calin, and a resident of Kosmetik in San Francisco, their sets traverse many tempos within a dreamy, bassy, and effervescent palette. Their mix is a perfect backdrop as we lament the absence of those queer summer moments in the woods due to the COVID-19 pandemic, bouncing between melancholic reflection and joyful reminiscence.

"The tracks I put into this mix have been some I have been sitting on for a while and wanted to put together. When quarantine because of COVID started I wanted to create something with energy but still something on a tempo that wouldn’t necessarily be played on a dance floor.

The mix is recorded all around 100 BPM but still brings energy so it’s great for a mellow time or something different. The tracks are new plus some that I’ve had tucked away for a time like this. It’s one of my favorite things I’ve put together and I hope it brings people a lot of comfort and happiness during this time."

Spontaneous Affinity #027: Sis Girl

For Walking & Falling October's installment, we bring you a mix from Brooklyn-based DJ Lychee. This recording is a set they performed at Nowadays :)

A DJ, writer, and event organizer, Lychee (they/them) runs Spontaneous Affinity, a monthly mix and interview series, annual zine, and occasional event platform focused on how dancefloors have shaped artists. Most recently, they released a zine, "Behind the Party", focusing on the experience of workers in the dance music industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a very slow build of industrial and ambient tones, Lychee weaves their way through tunes effortlessly. By the second half they pick up the pace, having us longing for the dance floor with bouncy techno grooves. It's a collage of sounds that we hope you all will dig!

This week’s Rhythmic Culture podcast is all about deep grooves and pumping rhythms, as Melbourne’s Toni Yotzi is in charge of what’s happening for 66 minutes. Toni has played a crucial role in developing Perth into a thriving club metropolis, programming Deep Doogs’ sunrise rave, co-hosting Full Frequency on RTR FM and presenting parties for Kenji Takimi, Bell Towers and DJ Nozaki. Now based in Melbourne, she’s established herself as one of the most open minded DJs on the local circuit, immortalised by a legendary Inner Varnika and Golden Plains set's that saw her fearlessly transition from Jon Hassell to italo disco, memphis rap and Bristol bass and UK techno.

With this mix, I set out to make it about Acid, of course, but with my twist. I did play a lot of the 303 lines because well, I love em. But more than that I wanted to harness the energy of what Acid House was when it was first introduced to the world.… spunky, fun, euphoric, psychedelic, and with lots of attitude...This mix symbolizes this for me and represents my own personal journey through different era's as a DJ... Some of these records have been in my collection for more than two decades, while others came to me just a few days before recording. 

This mix is dedicated to my brother in beats, Marc Bartissol, aka Dull, and to the best dude ever, Chris Cavilear. Both of whom were unexpectedly taken from me last year...

Acid Camp Vol. 129 — JAMS J

BAR Rotterdam residents and all-round executives Jetti & Post getting us right back to the club with this one-hour rave orientated mix series. These two can’t live without a decent diversity and solid nightlife culture around them. “Being in Rotterdam makes us a bit rough around the edges, which can be found in our selection. Being the bookers of Bar Rotterdam made us expand our taste in music. We have so many favourite artists!”

As of today, The main focus of the duo is at Bar Records. The record label that came out of the Rotterdam club already is set to release nr. 07 in their catalog. “In this mix series, we are playing 2 new tracks of the upcoming release which will be out around spring. It’s nice that we can release music from artists we love so much, but the thing we are looking forward to the most is to start up our Bar events again.” The crew is planning to collaborate with concepts like Isburning and Jetti & Post are taking the next steps in focussing on their DJ career.
