What does it take to conjure all the magnificent musical moments that help make our lives meaningful? It certainly takes a lot of heart to devote a lifetime to the craft of creating the stimuli that make it possible. It undoubtedly takes a lot of brain power to keep pushing boundaries in order to make it interesting. But we can all agree it requires a lot of manpower, both quantitatively and qualitatively, to render it all tangible and make it unforgettable. And our guest for this episode is no stranger to these principles that, even if the current physical distance between our bodies make it harder for their magic to materialise, always work their way towards helping make life enjoyable. This Newcastle native now residing in Ciudad de Mexico has been globetrotting from New Delhi to New Mexico and everywhere in between, casting his rhythmic spells and deploying the aural charms that suspend time and space in hexstatic sets at every single stop. Much the same way he does here by taking us on a lengthy trip during which we barely feel its three hours and through which he takes across a multitude of soundscapes, eras and moods only to leave us craving for more at the end.

For the next in our Off The Record mix series we invited DJ, radio host and music consultant Sam Don or known to his close friends and family, Sam Donnison. Sam is a DJ's DJ, having proved himself and the world over as a man of many styles, tempo and moods. Having shared the airwaves with highly regarded talent like Danilo Plessow aka MCDE and constructed mind soothing mixes for podcasts like Mr Bongo its quite hard to pin point what direction Sam will go in a set. This also shows the sign of a true digger and if Off The Record knows anything its deep diggers. This digging helped Sam curate one of the most captivating compilation series' to come out this year in our opinion; "For The Love Of You", a journey through Lover's Rock across two brilliant volumes on the ever amazing Athens Of The North. For this mix Sam has tapped into a deep dig of fun yet raw house numbers, stemming with vocals, hypnotic acid, heavenly kicks and cunning blends throughout. Soulful selections in the spirit of his 2018 Inner Varnika set, by one of Europe’s finest DJs. 

Our tenth instalment in the Theory Therapy series is extra special as it comes from one of the genuine masters of deejaying: Finn Johannsen. Since first cutting his teeth in the 80s playing on the Rare Soul circuit, the veteran selector has garnered a reputation as one of the most versatile and skilled DJs around. The Kiel-born, Berlin-based selector is also behind the Macro Recordings imprint, which he co-runs with Stefan Goldmann. As well as having worked at Berlin’s Hard Wax, he’s also a well-respected writer among music aficionados, contributing to numerous publications over the years. 

For many Australians though, the Berlin selector is best remembered for his incredible 4-hour closing set at Inner Varnika in 2018. In some respects, his Theory Therapy mix feels like a spiritual sequel to that special evening in Victoria. It possesses the same warm, soulful tip, sounds like virtually no one else, and displays his uncanny ability to effortlessly combine sounds from across the globe into one free-flowing, spellbinding trip. He might make it look easy, but the best usually do. So sink into the vibes and allow the masterful Finn Johannsen to take you there—few do it this well.
