About this edit :
A friend once told me that our vision of the music landscape is skewed by what is available on internet. We believe that it is a mirror of the music that exists all around us, without realizing that it only hosts the music that major record labels would upload - leaving behind the rich & diverse music ecosystem from smaller & indie ones, that can only be found in record stores around the world. There has been in the past couple of decades an uptick in new labels like Habibi Funk or Analog Africa that would take on the gargantuan task of traveling, digging & republishing those gems - allowing us to discover this music. The credit goes to them. I couldn't be more thankful.

The minute I listened to this track, I was struck by its raw energy & the charisma of the singer. I had to make an edit, anything, that would let me play it alongside my tracks in sets. I've also tried not to take too much away from the voice & rhythm of the original one, while adapting it to a more club friendly format. I hope you enjoy it!

Growing up around Paris, Yasin Hazim learned about music through both his classical music training at the conservatory & his family's Moroccan & Algerian roots. It's from those influences ranging from Leonard Cohen, Keith Jarrett & Jacques Brel to Gnawa music, Abdel Halim Hafez & Reinette l'Oranaise that he draws his own style, ranging from Blues to folk music, sly elements of R&B, to his own blend of psychedelic disco and beyond.

Awash in waves of haunting piano lines and warm chugging drums, Yasin Hazim’s music is a departure of all that is pumped-up, instead drifting along a more circuitous river of melodic emotions and rhythmical movements, taking you on a heartfelt and personal journey.

About this edit :
The song "Nana del Caballo grande" was a theme that came to light in 1979 in the album called Leyenda del tiempo, it is a poetry by García Lorca (one of the greatest poets of Spanish history) skilfully set to music by Ricardo Pachón, introducing the Sitar, which was an extremely rare instrument for this time. This was an album that marked a before and after in the musical history of Spain.
Camarón de la Isla is considered a transgressor in gypsy culture, and one of the first brave people to mix Flamenco with other musical styles. And this remix is ​​my humble tribute to this great artist who opened the door to so much musical miscegenation that was so important to get to where we are today musically in this country, where I have lived my last 12 years and that has welcomed me with so many things to offer.

Bruno Lima a.k.a. Dj Sonorus is a music producer, musician and DJ working with music for the las 15 years, went to Barcelona - Spain in 2009 to finish his studies in Audio Engineering. He set up his own recording studio in 2010 and since then he records and produces and records artists from all over the world in Estudio Sonoro. As a DJ he mixes influences ranging from Hip Hop to World Music, Brazilian to Reggae, Electronic to Jazz, SoulGroove to Cumbia.
In each set that he does, he seeks to merge the influences of the past with what is current, to mix the rhythms of the world with the electronic and create an atmosphere that makes people dance and have fun with a musical environment full of joy and good vibes.

First teased with the release of bubbling lead single ‘Calores’ in January,   ‘Da Linha’ crowns a defining breakthrough three years for PEDRO that have seen him establish himself as one of Portugal’s most vibrant and exciting new-school producers. His debut EP ‘Damaia’ (2017) – named after the suburb of Lisbon he was born in – immediately signposted a bright, borderless and completely unique club sound, which has since been best emphasised by 2019 releases including the Buraka Som Sistema-sampling ‘Rapazes’ and a breathless collaboration with Nigerian MC, Magugu (‘Too Much’), both of which feature on the LP tracklist.

First inspired by his older brother, who would introduce PEDRO to the latest electronic music from all over Europe, PEDRO references DJ Rolando’s ‘Knights Of Jaguar’ as a memorable early touch point – a record he still credits with influencing the melodies he writes to this day. Living and growing up in Damaia, a neighbourhood of Amadora, the biggest and most diverse Lisbon suburb which counts almost 20% of migrant population, mostly from former Portuguese colonies such as Angola, Cape Verde or Brazil, exposing him to a whole patchwork of new sounds and genres like kuduro and kizomba from a very young age. 

In Portuguese, ‘Da Linha’ translates to mean ‘of the line’, an extended name-slash-title that’s been given to PEDRO over the years. ‘The line’ here refers to the Sintra line, a train line that connects Lisbon to Amadora and PEDRO’s neighbourhood of Damaia. The artwork builds on this idea by presenting a futuristic take on the aesthetics of public transportation signage, while also adopting the colours of the Amadora council flag — an open dedication to PEDRO’s hometown and all of its unique musical and cultural influences.

With such a rich and diverse musical upbringing, it is perhaps no wonder that ‘Da Linha’ is bursting with energy and colour across all 10 tracks, melding together the hyper-specific sounds, instruments and voices that have sound-tracked PEDRO’s life so far. From the marching, militant rhythm of ‘Stuck On You’ ft. standout Ghanaian MC, Bryte, to the silky, earworm melodies of closing track ‘'Para Ti’, you’d be hard pushed to find a debut record that captures the sound of a city so viscerally.
