At the peak of our longest event to date on Saturday, January 18th 2025, a NYC-based selector stepped into the booth at Masada to tell a story: a journey of tension and release, brimming with emotion and passion, a romance that lingered in our memories long after. We are beyond thrilled to mark the 100th instalment of CLOSERcast with none other than Holden Federico’s live recording of his 3-hour Masada set, to immerse ourselves into that beautiful, graceful and moving experience once more.

Philly-born, New York-based producer and DJ Holden Federico is dedicated to reimagining techno by pushing its core elements to bold new extremes. His productions carry a driving low-end energy, rich thematic layers, and dub-infused detailing, all underpinned by grit and soul. As a DJ, he weaves together diverse textures, thoughtful pacing, and a deep respect for techno’s roots, shaping a modern dancefloor experience that balances the physical with the emotional.

Next up on the Local Selection, we welcome Ukiyo Lacuna resident IKIGAI3000 (aka Dylan Jones), who has provided a mind-bending recording for us today. His contribution is one filled with a fierce selection of energetic techno, scattered with dazzling moments of tension and release throughout.

Although he is a relatively new artist in Ireland's techno scene, having just started DJing in late 2023, IKIGAI3000 has had a fairly action-packed time as a DJ and producer during this short period. He has played shows all over, spanning Galway, Drogheda and Dublin as well as international gigs further afield in Manchester, Freiburg and Berlin. This also includes appearances on Galway's Skin Sessions, Limerick's Shed Sets, as well as the Drogheda Groove Movement mix series.

His productions have been received particularly well, with releases on Space Records and IC Trax and an abundance of SoundCloud self-releases. Additionally, he's garnered support from a range of notable artists that include Uberkikz, Dax J, Daria Kolosova, Grace Dahl and Alarico. It's clear to see that Dylan's progression as an artist will undoubtedly continue to rustle feathers amongst his peers if he continues to build on this fine level of output and consistency.

IKIGAI3000's mix for the Local Selection is best described as a personal journey through sound. This recording in particular showcases where he currently finds himself on his path as an artist, seamlessly weaving through tracks that complement one another in effortless fashion. Best characterised as a 60-minute immersion of no nonsense, serious techno.

Based in Berlin, Shanda is a DJ, producer, and co-founder of Techno collective
ABYSS (HK) from Hong Kong. With her classical music background as a flutist, she has quickly established her place in the Hong Kong underground scene. Her biggest highlights in Asia were performing at Clockenflap 2023 festival and headlining major club nights in China, Vietnam, Singapore, and Australia.

In pursuit of musical inspiration and further development of her artistic career,
Shanda relocated to Berlin, Germany in 2023. She quickly gained recognition in
esteemed Berlin clubs, including Tresor, RSO, Else, Club Ost, Renate, and more. With a solid foundation in music production, she’s now carving her path as a producer with a new recent release with Bipolar Disorder and more coming out soon.

Her sound is versatile yet centered around dark, groovy, and synth-driven techno, incorporating natural sounds and classical instruments with unexpected rhythmic twists that create a unique and immersive listening journey for her audience.
