It's my first and hopefully not last collaboration with the wonderful Dirk Maassen. 
I was very pleased when Dirk asked me to record a guitar part to his piece Déjà vu.
I recorded 2 versions, an improvised version and a more composed version. I decided to post my improvised version. It simply has more charisma and contrast to the piano.

Elpis means hope in greek (hellenic).
I begun creating sketches of Elpis as part of an acoustic-electronic collaboration with AnantaSound, at the beginning of summer. As the days went by, I found myself getting immersed in the motifs that sprung. I tried to keep the piano track relatively airy so additional sound could fill up the space. By the end of summer, a friend of mine and exceptional violinist, offered to record a few tracks. So this is an acoustic version of Elpis. I hope you enjoy it!

The Flood

At the moment, I am in the middle of various stages in my life. I've sold my business & am embarking on a full time music career. I'm also in the process of shifting houses to an area a few 100 kilometres away, so everything feels like shifting ice underneath my feet. The phrase "Find your way" came to me as I sat at the piano for this improvisation & here is the result.

Composition Notes:
Over the past year I've been listening a lot and learning how to play music by Bach. My piece "Memory Invention" takes a similar progression as some of his keyboard works and adds strings to it. The two alternate versions couple this with the idea of how what we remember about an event changes and can even deteriorate over time.

Abstraktes #7 continues my series of solo piano music exploring the line between improvisation and composition.

When you see her first

Born in Scotland and raised in the tropical rainforests of Costa Rica and Honduras, I enjoy adventures both close to home and in far away places. Composers which have inspired me include: Michael Nyman, Ludovico Einaudi, Arvo Pärt, Eric Whitacre, Thomas Newman, Alexandre Desplat, John Williams and Philip Glass. 

I find music can express much more than words alone. Improvising on the piano somehow feels like the most natural way to express my feelings. 

No matter where you are from or what language you speak, music is universal.

Through my endeavours, I have been fortunate enough to have received several music awards including from the EMI Sound Foundation, the Worshipful Company of Leathersellers, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Awards for Young Musicians, the Musicians Benevolent Fund, the Walter Bergmann Fund, the North-East of Scotland Music School,  the Robert Nicol Trust, the Dr John Calder Trust and the Cross Trust.
