Halle’s dynamic duo, Monkey Safari return to their beloved Hommage imprint after being away from the label for more then a year. With their beautifully crafted “Cranes” release they will surely make up for their long absence in a big way. Even looking at the names of the remixers in charge will leave every music lover very excited.

“Cranes” takes it’s time before introducing the bass drum, a bit more then two minutes to be exact. Monkey Safari get you in the mood with laid back, morphing spheric sounds and teasing percussion. The heavenly, slightly pitched down vocal will trigger a whole array of emotions before the journey even begins. Acoustic sounds combined with sleek piano chords and well placed break downs will make “Cranes” stay in your favorites list for months to come.

Everybody’s darling Kölsch is presenting the first remix. Kölsch is changing up the low frequencies as he adds layers of synthesizer progressions and a heavier bass drum. Sharp percussion and saw tooth sounds are drilling themselves through over ten minutes of musical bliss, but always leave enough space for the vocal to breath. 

Wolf + Lamb are closing out the release with their funk injected version. The lively acoustic drum programming breathes a different life into the track and takes it to a whole nother level. They provide “Cranes” with an overall more uplifting feel.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (9th October) Iranian producer Ash Koosha is our guest in Hour 1, who gained a lot of attention from Pitchfork following his debit album GUUD released earlier this year. After being jailed in 2007 for putting on concerts in Iran, he moved to London and now produces beautiful and intricate electronic music and we're delighted to have a mix from him this week. He told us;

"The 60 minutes i put togher for Solid Steel is focused on the idea of Human vs Machine and the Machine as a Bio-mechanical entity, in other words the future "us". 
The idea of a Transhumanist world inspired me to mix from folky Bulgarian choir to the "Living-Machine" sounds of Leila Arab and Brood Ma. The engagement of classical music with the future of sound.
Putting the two poles together resulted in a new sonic spectrum where the value of frequency is above source of sound."

Shlohmo - Don't Say No ft. How To Dress Well

Here, on ‘Must’, Bolivar tips a nod to his love of dub but from the opening track onward we see true reflection of his wide-ranging influences. 80’s disco bleeds through on opening track ‘Rise Your Demons’, a slo-mo track that gives way to the pensive deep house tones of ‘Eleven Years’ before the two sounds meet in the quirky, upbeat ‘Midnight Frogs’.

Hazy jazz meets dub overtones in ‘Off Soft’ (feat Fabel) while the jazz licks filter into the appropriately titled ‘Smoke Mode’ and following track ‘Diamonds’ which takes a more stripped back approach in showcasing its roots. The last section of the LP, across four tracks, runs a myriad of deep house aesthetics and, carrying on the LP’s densely textured melodic approach, provides a gossamer covered range of moods.

‘Must’ is an accomplished, cohesive LP that sees Bolivar at the height of his deft and subtle yet compelling writing. Paired with exceptional production values that give appropriate space and cosseting warmth, this writing really shines.
