'Fase Luna', the forthcoming album from LA Priest, was born out of time spent in locations far removed from the West Coast metropolis that springs to mind upon hearing the artist otherwise known as Sam Eastgate’s alias. 

Recorded in Mexico as well as the rainforests of Costa Rica, the hazy, pop-imbued release takes thematic cues from both places, with Eastgate’s original plans for the album reshaped into something deeper and bolder through these experiences.  For the Crack Mix series, Eastgate looks back at some earlier sources of inspiration for the new record – largely the work of prolific Indian composer, Ilaiyaraaja. 

“This mix showcases the electronic side of his work in the 80s and early 90s along with some of my own experiments with sampling and paying homage to this music.”

Ondatropica is a musical collaboration lead by Mario Galeano and Will Holland. The foundation of the project was laid in a 
three week recording session at the legendary Discos Fuentes in Medellin, Colombia. It was there that over 40 musicians 
came together to revisit, revive and celebrate tropical music of the country. 

An 'Onda' is a soundwave, a charge of sonic energy projected out into the atmosphere. Musical explosions like Ondatropica don't come out of nowhere, each participant of Ondatropica has their own history and experience contributing to the whole. This mix celebrates the music of the individuals that make up the Ondatropica collective and the diversity of Latin America's tropical music scene. The mix features the music of Peregoyo y su Combo Vacana, Flowering Inferno, Residuo Solido, Afrosound, Grupo Canalon, Esteban Copete y su Kinteto Pacifico, Michi Sarmiento, Frente Cumbiero, Anibal Velasquez, Romperayo, Pedro Ramaya Beltran, Piano Negro, El Combo de Pepe, Alfredito Linares, Ray Perez and the Meridian Brothers!

Our favourite west coast space rock band "Woolfy vs. Projections", or "the Hall and Oates of the dance world" (XLR8R) are back for good. "Set Me Loose" is the first single from their 2012 album "The Return Of Love" , which with its proper songwriting, dreamy atmosphere and psychedelic character became an essential listening delight for all kind of Balearic types over the past summer. "Set Me Loose" is the perfect example for W vs. P unique blend of electronic and acoustic instrumentation and the natural haziness that lives in their music. This makes it a perfect match for Swiss legend Lexx (you have to check out his contribution to the ' originals ' series on Claremont 56), who offers the first remix here. Lexx does what Lexx does best adding a good portion of Excotica, tropical drumming and a certain dubbyness to the original making it a winner on the late night floor. 

The Drifter, who had a busy year with setting up his own label Maeve, which he runs with his lads Mano Le Tough and Baikal and with releasing his debut ep on Permanent Vacation in late 2012, comes correct with a hypno house version of "Set Me Loose". He leaves out most of the original's Balearic feeling and adds a punchy kick and an acidy bassline to get it in shape for the more housy floors. 

Last but not least in this delicate triumvirate of remixes is El_Txef_A from Bilbao, Spain. Aitor Etxebarria turned quite some heads with his last year's debut album "slow dancing in a burning room" and the mixture of contemporary club music and classic pop elements. He stays close to the original, stripping it down to the basic elements of the groove and the vocals before half way through of the remix an arpeggiated synth appears and introduces the 4/4 bass drum for the second half.
