Biography

An uncompromising passion for a contemporary, cutting edge sound is what Cid Inc brings to the vast landscape of electronic music. Swedish producer Henri Hurtig aka Cid Inc began his journey into music production in the early 1990s. Based in his home of Sweden for a time but eventually re-locating to Finland Cid Inc always had an affinity for cutting edge electronics. It's a fervor that eventually led him to electronic dance music and more specifically house and techno. The sounds of KLF, Underworld, Future Sound Of London and Aphex Twin are what shaped Henri's musical foundation early on and eventually led him to begin DJing in 1993. When asked about his beginnings in electronic music Henri notes "It was an incredibly inspiring time for me, the passion for hearing something unique and fresh got me totally hooked and I couldn't wait to test out the newest tracks in my upcoming gigs". A regular behind the decks in both Finland and Sweden Henri's passion for DJing soon carried over into the studio.

Drawn to more experimental sounds at the time Henri's early studio ventures were that of breakbeats, techno and abstract electronica. Slowly these early experiments were forged into more club oriented constructions which Henri soon began road tested in his DJ sets each week. It was the Swedish producers unbridled dedication for perfection that led him to eventually study sound engineering from 2001 - 2004. This proved to be an important step in Henri's evolution as an electronic music producer as he is now highly regarded as a sound engineer by all his industry contemporaries. His mastering prowess is sought after by some of the most widely respected producers and labels. Hernan Cattaneo, Christian Smith, Guy J, Pig & Dan, Tronic, Sudbeat, Lost & Found, microCastle, Hope Recordings and Perspectives Digital are just a small selection of the many artists and labels that swear by Henri's mastering expertise.

Innovation was a characteristic Henri always aimed for in his studio work and it was that very trait that led to the birth of Mashtronic in 2004. Formed in conjunction with German producer Mathias Bradler the Mashtronic moniker was one of the leading lights in the fashionable electro-club sound which dominated electronic music from 2005 - 2008. It was a pivotal moment in Henri's career as the Mashtronic sound was heavily favored by none other than John Digweed. The storied DJ not only played many of the duos productions but also had them appear on his Bedrock imprint three times. A long line of trendy labels including Ministry Of Sound, Global Underground, Sex On Wax and Alternative Route soon followed and as a result Mashtronic became one of the most sought after remix teams of the moment. This success was met with a very hectic tour schedule for the better part of the next three years. It saw Mashtronic travel to over twenty countries and perform as an integral part of Global Underground's 2007 World Tour.

After having released a track on "Sudbeats Vol. 2", the always consistent Cid Inc makes his long over due Sudbeat solo release.

"Temazcal" is a groovy little number, deep and chunky and full of swagger. The muted bass sounds encapsulate your mind, before a luscious soundscape unfurls as the dreamy tinkles cascade like a warm blanket of sound. The combination of these elements generates a mystical hazy feeling of beauty, and is mesmerising.

"Response" is a hypnotising and warm, subtly layered gem. This is a masterpiece for the mind as it crystal clear production leaps out at you, creating an almost 3D vortex of sound, and all the while, the track is gently building creating tension and atmosphere as it meanders effortlessly and beautifully as a perfect dance floor moment.

And the already known ‘Fragile Circle’ closes the package. This track doesn’t need much of an introduction, as it was one of the gems included in the outstanding Hernan Cattaneo’s Balance and has been played by Hernan himself all over the world during the album tour.

The release begins with the title track and brings a strong dance floor sensibility straight away. It’s driving, chunky groove is full of wonderful momentum and as clustered keys slowly develop a smooth melodic storyboard unfolds. There’s a hint of old school Holden / Chable in that lead which carries the track nicely and shines during the main break with an extra coat of glimmer. It leads to a smooth yet exhilarating conclusion that hits just the right emotional spot. Wonderful melodic work from Ezequiel.

The 24th release on microCastle sees two of electronic music's most loved producers Henri Hurtig aka Cid Inc. and Peter Goylan aka Lank back together for 2 more studio collaborations to follow up their 'Our Benefactors' EP from October of 2010. The 'Emotional Self' EP comes with two new original productions and remixes from: Microtrauma and Jamie Stevens. The 'Emotional Self' original gets the EP off on a very serious note. Cid Inc's titanium coated beats have never been more poignant or impactful. Jagged subby tones and a profoundly subversive bass line that reaches rib cage breaking depths sits at the foundation.  Draped with sheets of percolating effects a futuristic and deeply thought provoking set of tone bending chords wash over the composition which creates a rather daunting and ominous mood. The composition peaks following an unsettled and foreboding breakdown  with the lead chords warping and twisting their way to a momentous sonic conclusion.


The lone remix of 'Emotional Self' is provided by the German based duo Microtrauma who are famed for their outstanding productions on Traum; most notably 'Circulate'. Their recent 'Reflection' EP also on Traum has been heralded by many melodic techno fans as the EP of the year thus far and has earned serious praise from Hernan Cattaneo. 'Emotional Self' has been reconstructed by Microtrauma into a more techno inspired piece. The moody theme from the original is maintained and presented with a tougher and even more warped sensibility which should wreak havoc on even the most discerning dance floors.   Microtrauma's dynamic fills, futuristic sound design and ultra sharp transitions lead to a tension filled drop that climaxes with a seriously buzzing groove and an enthralling finale. Already charted by Hernan Cattaneo Microtrauma's 'Emotional Self' remix looks to go down as one of their coolest productions all year.


The second original on the package 'Urban Biorhythm' comes with a rolling, cavernous bass line and an undeniable big room feel. Themed around an irresistible synth hook and a tone trembling tension filled drop 'Urban Biorhythm' has turned out to be the perfect complement to the more heady 'Emotional Self'.  A Dub version of Urban Biorhythm has also been included which focuses on another one of Lank's rumbling grooves and layers of momentous hypnotic rhythms.


The lone remix of 'Urban Biorhythm' is supplied by Jamie Stevens who has achieved an amazing level of critical and commercial success over the course of his career. As one of Australia's most talented and sought after music producers, he has proven his skill in professional sound design, music scores for film and contemporary dance music. As the founding member of Infusion, the much-loved Australian electronic live act, he's left his mark around the globe, headlining some of the biggest and most respected clubs including; Fabric- London, Pacha - Buenos Aires, Womb- Tokyo and festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Roskilde and Creamfields in Moscow, Brazil, UK and Argentina. In his home country, Infusion received 2 prestigious ARIA awards for their work. Here at microCastle we've been huge fans of Jamie's for years so we were thrilled to finally find a project for him. For his 'Urban Biorhythm' interpretation Jamie has completely overhauled the huge progressive original into a funky, wobbly, orchestral techno mix for the ages. An irresistibly chunky groove is complemented with gorgeous piano accents, shuffling drums and panoramic, widescreen synths for what results in one of Jamie's most unique and inspiring studio creations to date.  An understated anthem for the ages from Mr. Stevens and a perfect close to Cid Inc. & Lank's second EP for microCastle.
