Not My Last Song

Apart from having a very wide frequency response from 30Hz to 17kHz and being able to handle high SPLs the Sennheiser MD421 has a tight cardioid polar pattern creating pronounced directivity and extremely good rear rejection. In this recording made at a gig sound check the performer is standing on a fairly wide theatre stage with the mic positioned about a foot from the bell of the sax. The mic has picked up only direct sound from the instrument. There are no reflections from either the stage or the empty auditorium. If you need good separation in a live performance the MD421 is a great choice of mic. Also, being a high quality dynamic this mic has no audible self-noise. No EQ or processing has been used. 31a Vintage Recording Sennheiser MD421 - 2 (1960) Tenor Saxophone

This is the sound of  a single Sennheiser MD421-2 used as drum kit overhead. The mic is mounted about a metre above the cymbals and focused down towards the snare. It provides a full and detailed account of everything apart from the bass drum. It is a classic percussion mic that really delivers the goods! No EQ or processing has been used.
