Overcast Sound and four:techs (AKA Tonic) start their exploration into the world of deep deep techno, dub and progressive styled 4x4 music. ‘Ripples Through Time’ is the first free release by the duo celebrating the start of their new collaboration project.

‘Hollow Tone’ & ‘Meditating Through The Wall’ are a display of Tonic’s minimal ambient expressions. The tracks were originally produced to be used as atmospheric soundtracks. Like the Overcast Sound / four:techs collaboration they are the of a new project in development.

In 2014 DnB producer Tonic started a side line project under the name of fourtechs with Berlin based deep techno producer Overcast Sound. The duo are delving into the world of deep techno, dub and progressive styled 4x4 music. Since then Tonic has been pursuing the 4x4 genres with a vengeance under the fourtechs name.

Fourtechs was introduced to music production in the year 2000. The combination of his passion for film editing and 10 years of previous music experience saw him take an instant shine to the process. “Production is exactly like editing film only 100 times more complicated.” In 2001 he was introduced to a wide array of electronic music. Coming from a heavy metal background he was more than skeptical of “fake music”. Managing to put his judgments aside he brought his first trance record. As fate would have it his crate of trance records were stolen and all he was left with was the only DnB record he owned, ‘The Nine’ by Bad Company. Many DnB heads would say this track changed their life but for Tonic it really did. In 2003 Tonic made his debut in the DnB radio/club scene of Christchurch NZ.

2005 was a huge turning point in his career when, along side Mafic, he opened up Christchurch’s Static Records. The record store was a fantastic two year learning experience and widened fourtechs musical exploration exponentially. Both production and DnB went on the back burner while fourtechs became fully immersed in the business world and re found trance in it’s progressive form.

In 2009 fourtechs made the decision to get back into the studio and move away from the party scene. The real drive came mid 2013 when he finally decided to make music production a regular part of his life.

January 2014 saw Tonic’s first free release, Enter The lair EP, on Germany’s Modular Carnage Recordings. A great relationship was born between Tonic and MCR and they expanded that relationship with the release of the 'Disposition LP' mid 2015. With releases on AutomAte Deep, On Crack Music and L.A.N. earlier in 2015 Tonic’s making his mark on the DNB scene.

Fourtechs is expected to be releasing music by the years end so keep an eye out, there’s already some good stuff in the loop.

Coming up to 20 years in the making, Tonic is still rolling stronger than ever. Pulling together the best elements of Progressive, Trance, Psychedelic, Ambient, Minimal and Dubstep. Then combining them within the DnB genre forms what is unmistakably Tonic. There has been a brief hiatus from studio life over the last few years but a few good things are brewing, 2 new albums to be precise and it’s some of his best work yet. These go on top of an already solid foundation of tunes with releases on AutomAte Deep, Modular Carnage Recordings and UnderNoize to name a few.

Going under the guise of Fourtechs there have been a few bits and pieces coming out of the shadows in the 4x4 domain. Fourtechs started primarily in the progressive domain and has, well progressed from there, from trance to breaks to techno. Someone went snap a while back, lets just say there is some fairly dark techno about to rear its ugly head.

Tonic is hitting the live DJ front after about 9 years in remission, so keep an eye on this. A complete over haul on the tune front then as well, any listener will be able to confirm Tonic has a refined selection of tunes that’s sure to put a smile on any true enthusiasts face.

Tonic’s internet based show, Deaf Fears Radio, has been rolling since mid 2015 and has some very exciting developments set to happen in the very near future.
