Neo soul is a term coined by music industry entrepreneur Kedar Massenburg during the late 1990s to market and describe a style of music that emerged from soul and contemporary R&B. Heavily based in soul music, neo soul is distinguished by a less conventional sound than its contemporary R&B counterpart, with incorporated elements ranging from jazz, funk, and hip hop to pop, fusion, and African music. It has been noted by music writers for its traditional R&B influences, conscious-driven lyrics, and strong female presence.

Get Back, is a slow burning R&B duet about the emotional divide that lingers after a breakup. The logo says it all.  If you don't understand, let me give you the dialogue.  Early to mid-1980s, NYC.  When black radio was black radio, not "Urban Contemporary".  When we had real DJs and remixers and programmers like Tony Humphries, the Latin Rascals, Shep Pettibone holding down real clubs like the Roxy, The Shadow, Nell's, The Red Parrot,  etc.  We heard everything.  We respected what came before us while forging a new path for ourselves.

Listen to this and understand why every other genre can have their artists and pioneers from back in the day go on tour and make money and be revered, except today's generation.  We're haters, we're old heads, we're broke and mad because the industry screwed us before it became a business and opened the door for the talentless to benefit.

I just wanted to take it back in my DJ retirement to reflect on how it used to be.  You couldn't be a DJ because you liked music and went to Guitar Center but buy some gear and decided to call yourself a DJ.  I needed to take it back...it's therapeutic.

I'm a soulful man, but am into all types of music - hip hop (particularly old skool - I grew up in the 80's / 90's), soul, 80's, soulful house, neo soul, Rare Grooves, Slow Jams, Bashment... Hip Hop was most definitely my first love but I've mellowed over the years    ;-) 

I particularly collect and love the mellow stuff - Neo Soul, Rare Grooves and my beloved Slow Jams.
