House duo Mescal Kids make their first big impression of 2020 with their 'Friends EP' on Kittball, featuring three red hot collaborative club tracks. This London pair is right at the heart of the current scene and has been since they first got together two decades ago. They are big hits whenever they play iconic parties like Elrow - or release on the famous party's in house label - and are frequently found in the higher end of the Beatport Charts thanks to a steady stream of solid sounds on Roush, Under No Illusion and 303 Lovers. Hammering house jam 'Tell Me' opens the release alongside KMS associate Killed Cassette, featuring woodpecker hits, fiery old school vocals and explosive synths that are all designed to blow up the club. Then comes 'The Power' with Someguy, another block-rockin' house tune with solid kicks and devastating synth stabs. Big diva vocals and a retro bassline really mean this one will bring the party. Last but not least, Italian Luigi Rocca joins forces with the pair for 'Otherwise Then' which is a more stripped back cut that builds through chattery percussive patterns, pumping bass and slick drum loops that suck you right into the menacing groove.

Romanian raised Paco Wegmann and French artist Sirus Hood collaborate to unleash the high-octane Rip Tide, featuring their inspirations of the seminal Chicago House movement, released on Hot Creations this January.

Rip Tide launches into a jackin bassline, a frenzied vocal sample drops into an addictive loop interjected with rolling claps and classic rave-soaked synth that doesn’t let you catch your breath. On Rush Hour the intensity continues, sumptuous sub-bass combines with an unfurling arrangement of hi-hats and tightly executed synth that will release endorphins on the dance floor.

Romanian newcomer Paco Wegmann’s sound is based on a solid diet of 909, Chicago and Detroit records. Already with releases on Hottrax, Elrow, Viva Music, Kwench, Savor to name a few, expect plenty more to come from this talented producer who sees electronic music as a culture rather than a trend. Sirus Hood started his DJ career at the age of 18, becoming a regular DJ at the best Parisian clubs. A self-taught producer, his music was initially picked up by the likes of Amine Edge & DANCE’s CUFF and Claude VonStroke’s Dirtybird. Following DJ residencies at Sankeys Ibiza, Eden Ibiza, Ministry of Sound London and both Social Club and Showcase in Paris, his talents were fully displayed to audiences across the globe. Today he continues to spend countless hours in the studio and his diverse range of music can be found on Rawthentic, Cajual, Sola, Wow! And Under No Illusion.

A four-track release, ‘The 302’ opens with the title track: a stripped-back slice of high-energy house music that follows the same formula as Deeon’s 1996 cut ‘The 604’. Patrick Topping’s vocal edit sees the same track laced with a MC-style US vocal, before Chicago house legend Paul Johnson gives the track a more melodic feel with his remix. DJ, producer and Unknown to the Unknown label-head DJ Haus then closes out proceedings with a deep, robotic remix that’s underpinned by a hypnotic acid bassline.

Against a Dark Background – the full-length studio album from long-standing British
techno duo, Spektre – will be released in early 2020 on Pleasurekraft’s esteemed
Kraftek imprint.

Following their critically-acclaimed debut album Casting Shadows Without Light in
2010 and their sophomore outing Cyclic Operations in 2013, Against a Dark
Background will be the third studio long-player from partners Paul Maddox and Rich
Wakley, who have been producing together under the Spektre moniker since 2006.

Currently in the top five-selling techno artists worldwide and with over 500,000
streams per month on Spotify, Spektre have taken the electronic music world by
storm over the past few years, with their forward-thinking productions and high-
intensity live performances resonating with legions of loyal techno fans across all
corners of the globe.

Now key ambassadors for British dance music on a global level, Spektre’s chart-
topping productions have received high praise from the likes of Adam Beyer, Carl
Cox, Pleasurekraft and Alan Fitzpatrick and the duo are often hailed as one of the
most exciting acts to emerge onto the UK techno scene over the past decade.

Talking about the forthcoming album, Spektre commented:
It had been over 5 years since the release of "Cyclic Operations" when we first started 
work on the new album in earnest, so we wanted it to be a representation of how our
music has evolved in that intervening period. The writing process itself was a lot
more reductive than the previous two albums. We holed ourselves up for a few
months and hammered out loads and loads of ideas, then filtered and refined the
pool through playing them out and getting feedback from a few trusted pairs of ears,
until "Against a Dark Background" began to crystallize into its final form.

02 - Spektre - Trying to Forget

Sidney Charles has been busy cooking up more gold in the studio, and this time for Do Not Sleep. He starts 2020 with two dance floor weapons, and the release comes hot on the heels of the launch of his own label, Heavy House Society and once again another year of non-stop touring.

Charles' new EP has a classic old school Chicago style to it. First up, Groovy Mushroom Feat. Lady Vale is a slick and soul enriched track with deft stabs, drums that will sweep you off your feet and plenty of authentic US house vibes to make it all the more timeless. Fire vocals add fuel to the flames and make sure this one will utterly destroy the floor. Then comes 'The Pump'  with its tough hits, driving bass that is deep down and dirty, and plenty of raw percussive energy all getting you on your toes.  Finally Demuir steps up with a killer 'Playboy Edit' of The Pump which takes this release to a whole new level of wonky naughtiness when its comes to a bass line.
