Chus L. Esteban, aka DJ CHUS, born and raised in Madrid, Spain (1971), started his professional career at the end of the '80s in his home town, amidst the full-blown euphoria of the acid-house movement at Club' Alien', one of the first clubs of the famous Kapital Group in Madrid. In August of 1992, he becomes the resident DJ at the legendary 'Kadoc' Club in the Portuguese Algarve. He shared the DJ booth with the best international Electronic acts at that time, witnessing from a privileged position the dance music explosion during the 90′s. His style, influenced by the Portuguese and American underground sounds, definitely converged into house music inspired by Disco, Latin, and World Music. 

In 1994, Chus became resident DJ of the first emblematic House Club in Madrid at Teatro Kapital, lasting ten years. He soon developed a passion for the art of electronic music production, working with the bests professionals in Madrid like David Penn, D-Formation, or Oscar L.

Chus created a personal vision of underground house music called the 'Iberican Sound' influenced by the culture of Spain and Portugal, but was along with Ceballos, whose techno background gelled with Chus's House style when this fusion turned up the 'Iberican Sound' becoming into a worldwide movement.  

His Music style is a delicious blend of Organic House, warm and intense with a vital and profound Tribal essence that fuses naturally with melodic and evolving sounds, percussion rhythms, and drums. A long-haul career based on his self-taught character and his constant defense of musical quality has turned him into one of the industry's most respected DJs. Chus's strength resides in his charisma and the unique and pure way he chooses to engage with people.  

Residencies worldwide, many awards collected throughout his career, 'DJ of the Year,' 'Best House DJ,' 'Best Remixer' or 'Best House Label' to name but a few. Over 25 years of music legacy on labels such as Defected, Nervous, and his Stereo Productions show his wide range of music styles and unlimited love for different genres. His blend of styles is his dogma and the quality, his message.  

Redolent Music is his most recent project, a new independent record label, event producer, management agency, and lifestyle concept, created alongside La Santa, whose purpose is to cater to the evolving music industry and develop emerging talent.

My monthly 'Headz Mix' from August 2021 ranges somewhere between Tech House, Electro, Progressive House and Techno.  The focus is on the Belgian producer Van Czar, respectively the sound of his own labels Ibiza Boys, VAN Recordings, Techno Parade und Miami Boys.

Van Czar grew up in Brussels and now resides in Spain's capital Madrid. As a producer and DJ, he brings a progressive club sound to dance floors. From 2009-2012 he was involved in the widely rooted Belgian label Bonzai Records. Meanwhile he successfully runs his own labels Ibiza Boys, Van Czar Series, Techno Parade, CZ Code, Miami Boys and VAN Recordings.
Currently he is working on joint studio projects with greats of the scene like Samuel L Session and Robert Armani. Still planned for 2021 are first vinyl releases on Miami Boys, a new compilation on Techno Parade, as well as the foundation of a new techno label: AXA Lab.

This mix spotlights the Portuguese deep house label PISTON RECORDINGS.

PistonRecordings was founded in 2007 by label boss, DJ and producer Rogério Martins, to fill the void in Portugal's independent dance music labels dedicated to young and fresh new talents. Obviously he has a good sense for this - today the label can look back on more than 600 releases and artists from all over the world send their demos to be able to release their music on Piston Recordings.

With my label mix I would like to give an impression of the current sound of this label. The track selection stems from the releases of the past 12 months and moves stylistically somewhere between Deep House and Funky House, also on the subject of Nu Disco, and in places it goes a little more in the direction of Tech House. Featuring music from artists such as Mau Zeti, James Garside, Soulthek, Kuzey, B&S Concept, Andy Bach, Soulthek, Luis Bravo, Ritz, and others.

It is the year 2023, and the label Fort Knox Recordings from Washington DC is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary - of course with a first class label compilation, which should not leave any armpit dry: "Another Decade of Fort Knox Recordings" contains 20 highlights from the labels second decade from 2013-2023.

For me, a welcome occasion to dish up a tribute mini-mix from this compilation + the terrific remix by The Allergies, of the Fort Knox Five anthem "Insight" (which has been released as a single).

Big, fat, heavy-ass, relentless techno junk is about as close as I can get to a sensible description of this mix. My inspiration for the selection comes from the music we are releasing on Funk'n Deep.

The mix begins by slamming home the core principles of warehouse-size techno; massive sounds for massive systems with massive crowds. After all, this is where techno truly comes alive.

I never to do things by halves and this mix is a reflection of that. There are some extremely fresh cuts in here. So turn it up, bang it out and shake your ass!

Funk'n Deep has been growing fast in the past year thanks to incredible work from our artists and support from some of the techno industry's gurus. I pulled together some of my favorite tracks for this mix.

DURTYSOXXX - Projections #004 [Insomniac Discovery Music]

Once again tracks from the latest Argy & Mama album have been blessed by the hands of talented remixers from very different camps. This time Alan Fitzpatrick, Rampa and Mike Starr are stepping up with their contributions. Techno long runner Alan Fitzpatrick injects a good dose of dark magic to Without Me. You can't resist the beats. Vocals and synths float through the rooms. Reverb-whipped sounds keep you moving on and on. In his version of This Is Your Beat Mike Starr sets on the profound interaction of voice, rhythm and fragments of a melody. Skillfully creating his very own funk. And For Who Am I Rampa builds up a laid-back and relentlessly increasing mood. The dancers inside and outside will surely enjoy it.

Part 1 of my monthly "Headz" mix for February 2021 is dedicated to the Danish deep house label DeepWit Recordings. For several years now, Alvaro Hylander and Sierra Maydell have been impressing me again and again with the innovative deep house sound they have published. The label was founded in 2011 and celebrates its 10th anniversary this year!
Definitely a good reason for a special label-mix, for which I have selected some tracks that were released on DeepWit Recordings in 2020. Label artists such as Ezeo, BioHazard People, LYP, Hamza Rahimtula, Frederick Alonso, Deephope, Christian Lamper, Deep Active Sound, and others are represented.

DJ and radio host on Radio Z 95.8 Nuernberg/Germany (Radioshows “Limbo Rhythm” and “Headz”).

As DJ he has performed since 1992 in the Franconian surroundings, however, also in Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria… Moreover he was booked for events such as the IFA International Radio Exhibition Berlin and the biggest European Youth Fair “YOU”, also in Berlin.
Dr.Best himself considers his roots in the Hip Hop Sound of the early 80’s to the mid 90’s, but he also dealt with other styles such as Funk, Soul, Acid Jazz, Trip Hop, Big Beat, House, Drum & Bass and Breakbeat. Over a couple of years he has been known in the German Clubscene as a Breakbeat-DJ, then in 2006, however, his style started to mutate… Styles such as Funk, Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop, Reggae, Latin, Afrobeat and Disco got mixed with his Breakbeat Sound and created a new mixture which cannot be easily tagged any more.
- But actually there is no need to tag it, is it? -
