What is Ghettotech?

Ghettotech, also known as Detroit ghettotech, is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in Detroit, Michigan, in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It combines elements of techno, house, hip-hop, and Miami bass. Characterized by its fast tempo, typically around 145–160 BPM, Ghettotech features repetitive, often explicit lyrics, and a heavy use of sampling. The genre emphasizes simple, yet energetic beats designed for dancing, reflecting its roots in Detroit's underground club scene.

Excerpt taken from "Ghettotech: A Detroit Love Story":

"In the 1980s, Detroit DJs and producers like Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson pioneered techno music. Soon into the creation of the genre, the city's musicians experimented with faster, bouncier and raunchier beats and lyrics. Their dare to be cutting edge led to the birth of techno subgenre Ghettotech.

DJs and producers such as Disco D, DJ Assault, Starski and Clutch, DJ Deeon, DJ Godfather and many more coined Ghettotech as Detroit club music or booty music in the late '80s and early '90s. The music is rooted from elements of Detroit techno, Chicago ghetto house and electronic, and Miami bass."

This is my first time ever mixing Ghettotech! I made sure to feature, for the most part, the pioneers of Ghettotech while also incorporating modern-day tracks. I really, really had fun mixing these tracks and learning so  much from this unique genre, I hope you all enjoy. And, as ALWAYS, thank you so much for your ongoing support! ♡
