You may have sons or daughters who are big fans of pop stars – "stans" they call themselves these days, you may have seen the screaming fans of One Direction, you may have been one of them, screaming at The Beatles – well fangirls is now a rollicking musical, winning awards all over the place, coming to Wollongong from tomorrow, and it goes a bit deeper than just the screaming and the fainting.

Yve Blake wrote the show and the songs and spoke to Lindsay McDougall all about it.

Monologue

It was the news a whole lot people were waiting for. The International Court of Justice ruled Japan must immediately stop its whaling program in the Antarctic.

The Sea Shepherd ships have been in the Southern Ocean for 9 years trying to save the whales from the Japanese "research vessels", so I got their founder, Captain Paul Watson on a dodgy Skype line to give us their reaction.

As well as Heartbreak High and Deadloch, working with her sister Miranda, making a movie about her Dad Barry, and freezing Mark Knopfler (in interview form). Love Comes Knockin'

Friday last week marked the 40th anniversary of the Hilton Hotel bombing in Sydney. Inside the Hilton Hotel were eleven visiting heads of government for the Commonwealth Heads of Government regional meeting. As a result of the bombing the CHOGRM meeting was switched to Berida manor in Bowral.

On 14th February 1978 for three days,  800 troops of the Australian Military occupied Bowral to protect the visiting heads of state. 40 years on we revisited this amazing moment in Australian history, joined by Rowan Cahill who co-authored the Wollongong University research paper on the 1978 military occupation of Bowral, the Mayor at the time David Woods and some audio from the ABC’s PM program from 14th February 1978 with Huw Evans and International correspondent John Highfield.

US TV Series UnREAL is back on TV, and much has been made around here of its new star, because he’s from the Illawarra. Adam Demos was a Wollongong construction worker who has made his way to Hollywood, and in a show about Reality TV, that’s pretty unreal – also Adam is the cousin Hawks star Tyson Demos AND of a mate of mine and my wife’s, local musician Pauly Demos – and he called in to ABC Illawarra

Yorta Yorta man Scott Darlow has been putting out music for a few years now, but this song has arrived at a specific time, just before Jan 26, when the conversation and debate around "Australia Day" is at its peak. Scott spoke to Lindsay McDougall about the song, the message of community behind it, all of his mates and footy legends in the video clip, and also how hard it is to play guitar and didgeridoo at the same time...
