It’s hard to believe an entire decade has gone by since Claude VonStroke first released ‘Who’s Afraid of Detroit”. But believe it or not, we’ve reached the 10 year mark of one of the biggest hits of Claude’s career, and we felt it’s about time for some fresh takes on the track that helped launch VonStroke and Dirtybird. 

For the 10 year anniversary, we tapped into the Motor City’s outstanding talent pool and enlisted an amazing lineup of Detroit artists to help us celebrate. Besides Claude VonStroke’s brand new 2016 remix, we also included mixes from techno icons Octave One, minimal techno pioneer Marc Houle (Windsor is close enough!), and the accomplished trio Visionquest.

Not limiting the Detroit based artist package to just the music, the haunting release artwork comes to us from Michigan illustrator Dan May. In addition, a dark David Lynch style music video comes from award winning Detroit director, Anthony Ernest Garth. 

“Who’s Afraid of Detroit Remixes” will be released on the 10th anniversary of the Movement Festival in what city? 
Detroit, of course.

Eats Everything makes his much-anticipated Edible label debut with the ‘Girl Powder’ EP, his first release since January of this year, and the first to land on his own imprint.  Comprising two new tracks, ‘Rita’s E’ and ‘Veronica Electronica’, the release will drop at the end of October on 10” vinyl and digital download.

2016 has already been a huge ride for the Bristolian DJ & producer extraordinaire; along with huge club cuts ‘The Duster’ (featuring Green Velvet) and ‘Big Discs’, remixes for Disclosure and Green Velvet (taking the classic ‘Flash’ track to dizzying new heights), Eats mixed the 86th edition of Fabric’s fabled compilation series back in February.

And as the Edible label edges towards its first anniversary, a slew of highly well received releases from the likes of Rhythm Masters, Jesse Perez, Lauren Lane, Lord Leopard and Brett Johnson, have established the imprint as a consistent force for quality house music.

With its infectious bassline, dubbed out keys and vocal call to arms, ‘Rita’s E’ find Eats on top form, carving out an energetic and funky club cut, whilst ‘Veronica Electronica’ gets deep, down and twisted with its duetting vocal delivery, hard hitting drums and rave-esque sirens.

Eats Everything’s ‘Girl Powder’ EP is available from 21st October on Edible.

It is an absolute pleasure to welcome back the most talented Mad Villains for the follow up to his Love & Other debut “La Promesse”. Senses EP shows a similar soulfulness to his earlier work but this time around focusing on a few key elements that are executed to perfection.

Right from the off, the title track ‘Senses’ draws you in with its club-friendly yet melancholic vibe, seeking all things sensuous. Utilising an array of classic and new school sounds in the form of swelling pads and lush synths, paired with a heavy kick drum and noisy shuffling hi-hats. A rubbery bassline forms the spine of the record morphing in and out with percolating FM timbres. A sophisticated vocal rendition from Aisha Zoe ices the cake, bringing with it bundles of gravity and depth.

Cut from a similar cloth, the B-side ‘I Need’ features a stimulating drum and percussion pallet that’s driven by the rugged, UK-licked bassline and signature synth swirls - making for a danceable groove that has become the calling card for the more exciting bass music that’s come out of the UK in recent years. 

Rough on the edges yet effortlessly elegant, one foot in the past and one in the present, Mad Villains and Aisha Zoe together deliver a mature slab of home pride - encapsulated by a stunning artwork illustration crafted by Ami Vadi.
