This year's Black Rock Hoe Down almost didn't happen for me. Thankfully due to moving up the Hoe Down to Wednesday this year I was able to play at what could be my favorite Hoe Down I've been to as well as hauling my ass off the playa on no sleep Thursday to trek back home to San Francisco and then travel all day Friday to northern Michigan. 

It was all worth it. Along with the usual array of generator, sound, fm transmitter issues. Nobody panicked but there are times when you look at people ready to let loose and only the monitors and 2 of the array of speakers are working (and none of the subwoofers) where you wonder if its going to come together. The generators, speakers and fm transmitter all commenced working around the same time and all of a sudden the Black Rock Hoe Down was in full effect. 

For me riding up and seeing the Mog in deep playa under the desert moon has always meant breaks. Big, badass, booty shaking breaks. It's a bit of a change from what I usually play these days. Hope you enjoy the nod to the past with current tracks.

DJ Deckard - Black Rock Hoe Down 2013

This is the section of a set I performed in August at Public Works for the Heart Phoenix final fun-raiser for our push to Burning Man '13 .  Unfortunately the record button only got pressed an hour into the set but all good!

It was a super fun night. We were blessed to have Troy Pierce,  Laz Cassanova, Dax Lee, Derek Hena  and Atish on the main floor and Jive, Jen Woolfe, Devo, JB and BHaul upstairs.

"After a 2-year break from the playa, I was excited to be back at Burning Man this year.  I had an early arrival pass for the first time after 7 trips to the playa and I really enjoyed seeing BRC in the earlier part of the week.  The Hoedown was, once again, a screaming success and seeing how many art cars came to join us speaks volumes to the amazing support we have from the burner community.  I've been DJ'ing since 2003 and still get nervous every time I play, and I was worried I wasn't going to play the "right" music at 5am... but seeing those smiling faces on the dancefloor was the inspiration I needed to pick the "right" music. ;)"

ShOOey has been a staple in the San Francisco dance scene since 2003.  You can find her and her infectious energy at Space Cowboys events playing breaks and house.  She also dedicated her time DJ'ing in support for non-profit organizations like Beats for Boobs and La Casa de las Madres. The hypnotic momentum of the night passes to the hands of DJ Three as light begins to fill sky and the new day creeps ever closer.  For forty breathless minutes we wait… until at last the sun breaks over the horizon, and a collage of verbal musings, psychedelia and ornate music fills the air.  Toying with echoes and teasing with nuance, shutters fluttering to capture the fleeting moment…a moment not soon forgotten for those who were lucky enough to be there, at sunrise on Sunday, Black Rock City, Burning Man, 2014.   And then, just as easily as we are led into that place, a whole movement of sound and energy returns the dance floor.

DJ Three - Robot Heart - Burning Man 2014

One my favorite places in the world is behind the decks aboard the Phoenix bus at Burning Man on Burn Night. The crowds on  are alway super full of energy and ready to burst. Its a great time to throw down some bangers. Every so often the bus ventures to a new beat,  we find a new place to settle in and build a floor. As a DJ you get the chance to try different flavors and vibes, for me it was banging tech house to melodic deep house. Its a great opportunity to move fluidly through collection without barriers and expectations. 

Wow. BM 2014. This  years burn was an epic one. We united two big crews from the west coast and the east coast into a  global Heart Phoenix. Some spectacular parties where had thanks to some fabulous sparkle ponies, a few unicorns, an amazing set of DJs, eager party people,  bartenders, yogis and coogis. The family doubled in size and what a pleasure it was to be a part of helping it happen and realizing the collective vision. 

Many many thanks: to the crew leads who made the camp projects happen,  thanks to everyone who camped with us, thanks to those who helped with all the chores, thanks for all the hugs, smiles, compliments squeezes, kisses, spanks and high fives!  Thanks for mooping, fluffing, dancing, eating, drinking. Thanks for bringing the merriment. I cant wait to do it again!

When people ask me what is Burning Man, the most truthful thing I can say is that it's a magical place that has held a special place in my heart for a long time.  It may not be for everyone but I tell you one thing, it has rejuvenated my life and made me a better person as well as many others.  I feel the love from every human that has been in this place I have come to call 'home'.  It's made me more creative with my music, more caring and to sum it up, Burning Man is capable of changing the whole world's attitude and making it a better place to live. When I look around me in the playa, all I see are people from all over the world, sharing, caring and loving one another. Why can't we apply this to the world?
 
At the same time, it gives me great pleasure to share my music each year with the Robot Heart family.  These sets are very special and truly come from a place in my heart that it's hard to describe in words.  It's a gift to each and every one of you.  It's an honor to play on the Robot Heart bus each year and I hope you enjoy and feel what I am going through in this set.

I have DJing, creating, producing and promoting since 1997. I came to the USA in 2001 and have lived in Seattle, San Francisco and NY, and have been lucky enough to play music in awesome places in those cities and around the country. I spent a long time playing Drum and Bass, helping the Onset crew in Seattle establish the one of DnBs longest running nights in the USA. I transitioned over to house and have  been lucky to play in some amazing venues and environments. I was an organizer of the Burning Man art car and sound system, Heart Phoenix and now spend time working with my friends on Sundowners camp and Rexan the Sundowner Safari car bringing psychedelic safari experiences to Burning Man every year.
