Giorgio Di Salvo signs a new chapter in his Advanced Audio Research: a blast of free-form junglish mayhem, once more released in coproduction with Haunter Records. This time ripe with the furthest experimentations and most far-out cuts coming out of the AAR headquarters.
That’s right, we’re dealing with some serious freakishness : using the same generative process and wicked arsenal of tools as his previous oblation, Di Salvo managed not only to top its rave-ready madness, but also to venture far beyond, arranging the gnarliest noises into wild, crooked beats and mocking melodies.
AAR’s music is still closely related to the heaviest dance music paradigms like breakcore and flashcore, tho it maintains such a unique character and such a distinctive sonic palette that makes it stand within that musical world in a truly refreshing manner.

For Farsight, California’s bucolic San Geronimo Valley was the space that allowed for the creation of this handpicked selection of artistic output. Following a period of deep interest in abstract painting and its relationship to music, the artist found this lush and sparsely populated region to be an ideal location for contemplation and composition. Although the majority of the work was executed in the first two months of 2020 in this forested setting, some of the pieces were based upon drafts created as early as Summer 2017.

United in their eclecticism, the six cuts that comprise “Not Here, But Somewhere'' reveal a broad spectrum of musical influences. They are statements in an age in which influence is omni-directional, and in which the pace of artistic invention outstrips the ability of observers to identify and reify sub-genres. Although each track presents a unique approach, “Cadena,” “Sans Titre,” and “Door to the River'' reflect the continuing global suffusion of Latin American and Carribean styles such as reggaeton and dancehall.

Simultaneously, the duo of “While” and “Hot Half” suggest the ongoing dialogue of techno, electro, and industrial music and the interstices between them. “Mid-Winter Burning Sun” invokes the intensity of American trap music with its booming bass while touching equally upon the feel of early dubstep.
Ultimately, the idea that there is a “space for each artist” can be taken both in a literal sense— One’s physical environment— And also in the figurative sense that there is room enough for the ideas of all artists, who are kindred spirits in the endeavor of radical self-expression. In this way, “Not Here, But Somewhere” exists as an acknowledgement and gesture of goodwill towards every artist daring enough to explore the unknown.

"Intimate Ghosting", a compilation album featuring nine musicians from Japan and South Korea, is being newly introduced to the roster of the Netherlands/US-based record label Psychic Liberation. Under the curation of novelist and musician Jiyoung Wi, the album contains the works of Arexibo (KR), Arles (KR), bela (KR), Jiyoung Wi (KR), Joyul (KR), Kazumichi Komatsu (JP), Kenji (JP), Ultrafog (JP), and Yeong Die (KR). ‘Intimate Ghosting’ is a lucid invitation to the effervescente sonic field progressing throughout the experimental, left-field, ambient music communities of said regions. The album artwork is from Moon Bae, an artist working in the US and South Korea.

Languid psychedelia and meditative earth tones dominate on Swara Suci, the new album from Indian artist Bamboo Mystics. Using gamelan instruments, bamboo flutes, Jal tarang (Indian Water bowls), Kacapi (Indonesian Harp) and his voice, the New Dehli-based artist explores the linked musical traditions of India and Java, adding field recordings and African rhythms to make a warm, glowing ambient soundscape. Swara Suci is an intelligent addition to the recent revival of New Age sounds for the digital era, recalling the measured, spiritual experimentations of Jozef Van Wissem or Laraaji.

Holding a post-graduate degree specialising in the tabla, the pair of twin hand drums from the Indian subcontinent, Bamboo Mystics utilises his love of traditional instrumentation on Swara Suci. On the lush, dreamlike opening track, Pelog baru, he plays the kacapi, an Indonesian harp, in a composition inspired by classical Indonesian gamelan music.

Driven by the African djembe drum, the hypnotic Rainbow Mother uses percussive instruments from the Indonesian gamelan – the kendang sunda and bonang. On Air Suci, he uses jal tarang, Indian ceramic melodic water cups, finely tuned to connect with the rhythm of water. He maintains a meditative but generous textural atmosphere throughout the record, with vocals and field recordings anchoring the complex instrumentation into lived reality.

Bamboo Mystics, whose birth name is Rahul Jigyasu, is deeply inspired by the natural world across the Asian continent. “Swara Suci means pure notes in Bahasa Indonesia,” says Jigyasu. “The album is called Swara Suci because it is a pure acoustic and vibrant sound, reflecting the sound of nature.”

All the tracks are solo works except ‘Lucid Hunter’ (duo as Musica Medicina) and ‘Rainbow Mother’ (duo as Irama sounds)

About Bamboo Mystics:

Hailing from New Delhi, India, Rahul Jigyasu holds a post-graduate degree in music from Khairagarh University in Chhattisgarh. A student of the Western Indian Nathdwara tradition, he has an ear for melody and complex rhythms. The connection between the ancient and contemporary gave him in-depth knowledge of world rhythms.
In 2015, he finished a yearlong music fellowship in Java, Indonesia, learning classical gamelan. During this time, he also learned to make instruments with bamboo, and he now conducts bamboo music and crafting workshops, as well as teaching tabla and other instruments. This is his first release with Chinabot.
