With the decayed remains of the day on my coat, and yesterday's leather on my soles, I kick up the ponies of my rusted out sled and slide blindly out into the snow.
Through the eyes of a prophet in a weather weary face, my course set in stone. I point the compass of my soul towards you again, always leadin me home.

  A young man's heart, betrayed by yellowed bones. Sallow eyes veiled by the past. I measure the man, not in victories, but in his ability to last. When all's said and done and the book is wrote, each chapter will stand alone.

Always Leading Me Home

Echoes on vinyl…. Ghosts long passed….feelings to old to define.
Spoon in the pan, a drink in her hand, she curses the passage of time.
Feelings restrained, subdued in her pain,
She dances alone in her mind.
The song lingers on long after its done,
Breakin the shackles of time.
She hears the roar of the motor, feels the  wind in her hair, sees the future  laid out on the line.

When you think about then, what you felt, where you been, is it real? Could it be if you try?

Promises whispered in private times, together wherever we go.
Where the past meets the now, it maybe somehow, the road took a turn or two.
What would've been if the road didn't end? 
Would it still be me and you?

Backyard barbecue carries magic in the air
down  streets hidden from time.
Wizened oaks and willows with an ever present stare, stand guard as life unwinds.

A car well past its prime, less metal than pure grime, in a shed forgotten in a field.
The young man sees his future scratched into the dirty hood, feels a soul yearning to be revealed.
A few dollars change hands, “good luck young man”, is echoed as he rolls it off the lot.
But none of this is heard over the pounding of his heart, and the dream someone else  forgot.

From rust and dust new hope is wrought.

She was  quiet and reserved, and she never  did deserve nothing, or so it was said.
“Be happy what you got, though it ain’t a whole lot”. But that thought don’t keep you  warm in bed.
At the Friday night school dance, she thought she’d take a chance, in a summer dress that someone else had bought.
On that magic summer night, in a borrowed princess gown, she dreamed the dream someone else forgot.

It’s a bit of a mystery, the twists and turns, who can read the road to its end?

The Dream Someone Else Forgot

The winds may have blown and the seas might crash, but they never  could touch me.
I was flying far above them, as more than just a man… invincible and always free.

I am the pilot of my life
I am the captain of my fate
These are the truths that comfort me
I am not afraid to say
I need no other way
And life’s pilot I shall always be.

I felt the rules of the game were not the same, at least as it applied to me. Until the bottom fell out, hope surrendered to doubt, and I sunk into that sea.

I guess it’s in those darkest hours. I guess it’s in those murky depths. When a soul finds its worth.
stripped of the trappings, and false protections that I had carried since my birth.

I am the pilot of my life

These are the lies that comforted me
I am not afraid to say
I have learned of a better way

The wise man knows this fact of life.
The fool persists in believing
That all his efforts, vainly pursued
Result in him conceiving a better world, by his own hand , no help from man or God.

Surrender to the will above, learn from past mistakes. Remove the malice from your heart, no matter how long it takes.
In humility find your strength, and wisdom from your strife. And understand, no single man is the pilot of one’s life.

The Pilot of My Life

When we first got together, before our minds and souls were one
It was just like any other time, just in it for some fun.

We had no expectations, no plans to follow through
Until I heard those words as I was leaving
“I love you”

In a moment my world changed, turned around and rearranged. All i thought id figured out was lost.
And found myself in a life so strange, learned what love’s like unrestrained.
But I guess I  never counted on the cost.

I didn't see it coming,
Didn't count on our last kiss.
But if my choice was this or nothing,
I would always choose this

The years rolled by, some good some bad, in all kinds of weather
Though hell unleashed it’s fury, we were unstoppable together.
And then without a word, i turned and you were gone. Were there words, as yet, unspoken? Could we have stopped this being broken?

But to have known the touch of love, as if showered from above, must have been a gift from God to me.
