Drumming(1971) By Steve Reich (b. 1936)

In the 1970s Steve Reich intensively explored three types of music that would exert a profound influence on his work: West African Drumming, Modern Percussion & Drum Set. He traveled to Ghana, whose traditional music features a steady pitch and rhythm, constant changing of timbre, and substituions of beats and rests within a repeated pattern. These hallmarks infused "Drumming", in which a single quick symmetrical 12-beat phase constantly evolves over the course of an hour.
