We are grateful to have the artist Angekaut for our fifth installment of carbon file. This accomplished designer brings his love for aesthetic to display an array of influences. An example of intentional vision and composure, Angekaut’s mix builds from a calm storm to a controlled chaos. Class throughout, this one is made for the dance floor.

People in Los Angeles usually remember the moment they first saw Colored Craig DJ. He cuts a memorable figure: throwing down records on the turntables and dancing like he's in the crowd, not behind the decks. He's one of those rare selectors who's almost as fun to watch as he is to listen. But the rest of the world should be listening. Over the past few years, Colored Craig has become one of the LA area's most in-demand DJs, not just because of his considerable skills, but because of his old-school, loved-up ethos. He plays classic house records with a verve and style that you can't really teach or learn. You just have to have it.

A choreographer by trade, everything about Craig has to do with movement, the joy of it, the energy you both gain and lose through dancing. His RA Podcast, recorded in his living room (a sort of nightclub in itself) gets across the infectious, uplifting energy of his sets, blazing through tracks from Kerri Chandler, Masters At Work and Chez Damier, and even including a disco house track that samples the Price Is Right theme. You might call this sound nostalgic, but it doesn't feel that way coming from Colored Craig, who is obsessed with the now, and the power of the moment. That outlook is all over this mix, and with any luck, you'll be hearing and watching him DJ around the world outside of LA sometime soon.

With deep roots that stretch from ambrosial Kerala to the golden coast of California, CHA CHA’s (@cha-cha-pillai) sound is inspired by purling polyrhythms from cultures beyond the West. Their devotion to tabla, djing, and modular synthesis, guides them through universal sonic spaces.

Mother and sound engineer of Corduroy Garden Soundsystem, CHA CHA organizes hi-fidelity techno-forward experiences in Los Angeles underground. They have worked with crews and curators such as New Palm, Pranks!, Printshop, Vitamin1k, FeM Synth Lab, Acid Camp and United Selector Network.

A note from Cha Cha: 
"With this mix I intend to highlight my everlasting love for cheeky, freaky productions and wormhole bass lines while exploring the mesmerizing technicalities of drum traditions from around the world. I hope to coax the listener into a twisting, off-kilter energetic experience leaving them deep inside my fast, futuristic rhythmic jungle."

zahremaar (pronounced zah - reh - mar) is an Iranian-American, Los Angeles based DJ and producer. His DJ sets pay homage to the dark, driving sonic landscapes in the spaces he has felt most free—the warehouses, store basements, and few special clubs whose rumbles anchor the underground.

By day, he works as a design engineer for a plant based meat company, and has come to respect minimalism as an incisive tool to understand the variables that influence quality. 

His Acid Camp mix is driven by this passion, and aims to explore the meaning of minimalism within the harder depths of techno, building into a sound heavily influenced by memories of the now quiet spaces that were once such a part of our lives.
