"The song is about having the animal instinct inside you come to life. Running with them, joining them - the instinct taking over, giving you freedom and making you forget about your human self and all things we humans keep around us in the modern society.

I think humans need to let go a bit more, shake their bodies more often, like the animals do.. It's a beautiful thing really.

Sometimes when you look at the world, and you see what we've done to it, the way many of us hurt the world we live in, innocent animals, even our own kind! And that kind of makes you want to follow the wolves instead. At least for one night."

Aurora Aksnes is a 18 year old girl from Bergen, Norway. She strives to write music that can inspire people, through idiosyncratic tales of struggle, love, and all that lies in between.

Part 9 of the Handcut Record Club marks the return of old friends as we welcome Husband Material onboard. Launching earlier this year with NME Radar’s track of the week ‘What Did I Do Wrong’ (and following a quick stint in our AIH vs Mac DeMarco sessions), HM prove who is the ‘Bigger Man’ – available now for free download as part of our HCRC collection. 

Having exhausted writing and recording as the short-lived Bos Angeles, Richard Board effectively strips preconceived ideals of how he may have evolved, championing minimalist melody and forlorn funk at its finest. Melting bass lines through intoxicating keys, it’s the impressive subtlety of swooning guitar cushioned by depreciative vocal that fuse the natural depth of Board’s pop sensibilities. Completing the group’s lineup are Charlotte Desborough (keys / vocals), Zac Harris (bass / vocals) and also of Bos Angeles, George Rothman (drums).

As with previous Hand Cut singles, Bigger Man will be released on lathe cut 7″ and limited to 25 copies. The 25 copies will be available from our shop here at 1pm today! As always it’s worth pointing out that because these records are handcut, they will sound slightly lofi! "I had one day in a NYC studio to start a song from scratch, with Tunji in the room. I knew him because one of my dancers was listening to "For us" on tour - what a striking song. I thought : even though we have different lives, we both write about feeling lonely, about watching everything from this weird angle - when you feel oddly out of the picture. Anger came to me as something I could try to write about - articulating it is probably the first step towards action. No Harm Is Done is a picture of the moment before : before something happens, before we choose in which fight we want to engage. But for now, our hands are just slowly raising - it's a warning for what's about to come. After that, everything came quickly : the melody, the rhythm, the colour of it all."

J'avais une journée de studio à New-York, une journée pour écrire une chanson, dans la même pièce que Tunji - dont je connaissais le travail car un de mes danseurs hochait souvent de la tête sur "For us". De son écriture, j'avais retenu la mélancolie, le romantisme, même - l'extrême solitude, le sentiment de n'appartenir à rien, et de ne jamais se relier. C'est quelque chose que je peux comprendre - cette colère, cette frustration. No harm is done est ce moment suspendu, juste avant que quelque chose se passe. Le muscle se tend, l'oeil est sévère, la main se lève - et c'est ensuite qu'il faut choisir le combat à mener, le risque à prendre. C'est peut-être la première fois que je m'autorise à être menaçante, et c'est sans doute parce que je n'ai plus vraiment peur de prendre position…
