Made with 100 or so random sampled slices of waveform madness from a Wavetek 193 modulated laboratory signal generator...

I've had a lot of signal generators over the years - old and new - I mean a lot - and this one new to the fold has to be the single most versatile all-analog box of tricks for the lab I've some across to date!

The signal generator is a Wavetek model 193 – it consists of an auxiliary modulating oscillator that can generate 0-100 KHz of pulse (with variable width), sawtooth (with variable symmetry), sine, tri and square.

The main oscillator can produce sine, triangle and square with variable symmetry.

The aux osc can either AM or FM modulate the main oscillator and can be programmed to perform sweeps with the shape of the waveform selected – so you can even have a sinewave as a sweep LFO - or a ramp with variable symmetry - or a pulse with variable widths...

Having variable symmetry on both the carrier and the modulator is just brilliant for creative studio use.

You can also key the audio or remotely sync the oscillator.

And to add to all of that, to my amazement, there is a button that enables and disables carrier suppression along with a null control so its capable of xmod, genuine ring mod and quadrant-multiplying.

Both oscillators can also be voltage controlled (although I’m probably going to have to design a custom CV box for it as the transform curve is not Moog or Korg).

To cover so much sonic ground in one piece of old analog lab gear is really awesome!

The Signal Decay - KFMDMDMA

Here's an after the fact execution of a live set on 20th of October 2022 in support of Eye of Nix & Threst Harven. Actual sequence performed in front of the crowd was this with a few sections padded out/repeated to fill 28 minute alloted slot. This ~22 minute more concise version hangs better in my opinion. Sequences are really butchered down stuff composed with a few polysynths to support a single monosynth live. Set up: Arturia Minibrute, MPC 2000xl, RMA Tetanus Booster x2, RMA Monobius, RMA Stone Splitter, RMA Mudlark, RMA version of Jensen 918 preamp, and Hill Multimix, recorded to 2 tracks of Akai DR4d and later recorded into a computer where level normalization and front & back trims took place. Tod Dockstader's Aerial series, an electronic/drone masterpiece, is cherished among fans of the artist's work and this first volume is available in a double LP edition of 500 copies with 100 copies on clear vinyl exclusively for Imprec mailorder customers. 

     15 years in the making, Tod Dockstader's Aerial series is sourced from his life long passion for shortwave radio. Dockstader collected over 90 hours of recordings, made at night, and comprised of cross signals and fragments plucked from the atmosphere.

       Opening with airwave drones, Dockstader gradually allows elements to slowly come and go, summoning an ominous atmosphere of ethereal cloud clouds. Malignant placidity continues, giving the feeling of eavesdropping upon late-night audio activity not unlike discovering number stations while sweeping the dials. These sounds pull you in as their density and rhythms come and go. 
 
      Backward voices, deep echoing choruses of conversations flowing under the surface, ocean sounds, pulsing electro-rhythms, all seem to be created via the collaging of many hours of source recordings. A masterwork of collage and juxtaposition by an overlooked pioneer of American electronic music. 

Artwork by John Brien (Imprec) is inspired by the propagation of shortwave radio signals throughout the earth's atmosphere.

On December 11, 1980 Eliane Radigue performed live on KPFA. Her full performance is included here, remastered, on two compact discs. Upon hearing these performances for the first time in many years Radigue declared them to be the best versions she'd ever heard. 

Included are full in-studio performances of Chry-ptus and the world premiere of parts one and three of Tryptych.

Don Haugen is a visual designer, sonic experimenter, and curator based in Eugene, Oregon.

His work is guided by his interests in contrast, resonance, and the felt presence of sound, both physical and emotional. Through the use of contrasts of heavy/light, soft/hard, and quiet/loud. Haugen explores how these intangible feelings can act as catalysts to focus our inner-feelings on space and time. His current work merges home-built electro-acoustic instruments and reclaimed test equipment to create sonic texture-scapes.

Haugen’s work has been experienced through performance and exhibitions; at Drone Cinema (Videoscreening, Leiden, Netherlands & Seattle, WA. curated by Kim Cascone), Opus VII (art installation, Eugene, OR), Ende Tymes (Film screenings & performance, Brooklyn, NY) Splinter Squid Festival (Seattle, WA), NorCal Noise Festival (Sacramento, CA), Eugene Noise Festival, Denver Noise Festival, Noisepollenation (Los Angeles,CA), Portland Noise Festival, Godwaffle Noise (San Francisco, CA), several live radio performances and West Coast tours.
