Once Upon a Set, Chapter 2: The 4 Chambers of Tragedy

The team stands in a darkened valley, just as fog begins to roll down the great hill in front of them. Crickets chirp into the inky blankness and frogs croak their overtures in response. Just then, heartbeats quicken as a darkened door appears atop the hill, pulling in all light like a black hole. The 4 Chambers of Tragedy stands before them; they cross the impossible threshold.

The first Chamber opened into a great space that encompassed their former selves. They would have to face the people they once were in the Chamber of The Past. Electricity arced through the air, and danced across their skin, just as It leapt from the darkness… Battle rages and wanes unseen...

Defeated, it lay somewhere behind them, but not without its own cost. Loss. They were now just three; facing the next chamber would have its consequences.

The Second Chamber  required they face the people they now were. The Chamber of The Present lie ahead, but it brought no battle… other than within. If they could come out the other side better than they entered, then there was hope. candor… thought… self-reflection. Enough to pass.

The Third Chamber would test the people they had become. The Chamber of the Future presented endless scenarios, each with a set of decisions and consequences. Would they navigate the future, or become lost in the perpetual cycle of loss and gain? Even that is unclear in this story, as the Chamber of The Future’s blurred by the power of the Fourth and final Chamber… The Chamber of the Unknown.

Emerging from the Fourth door, the battered and exhausted team shields their eyes from the blinding sunlight that now bathes the expansive green valley down below. It waits for them…
