Lightning in a Botttle 2022 was my first big festival after the pandemic and it was HUGE - more than 30,000 people.  I played Thursday night and there were only 3 stages going and already 18,000 people there.  This set was played on the Junkyard stage to I don't know maybe 1500-2000 people - a secondary stage became pretty main, and the mains of course were nuts at this fest.

I knew exactly where was going with this set, coming out of the pandemic with pure unbridled euphoric house vibe on the edge of underground and mainstream.  People were freaking out, it was so so so lovely there I can't even tell ya ♡♡♡  

Incredible experience and before I go any further let me thank Jesse and Dede Flemming for throwing the whole shebang, and Patricio for curating the Junkyard stage formerly known as Favela Bar.

DJing is an art, or it should be.  I'm not just transitioning tracks, I am almost always playing with tracks together with very short gaps in between. I spend far more time in the mix of two tracks than out.  

DJing is also a performance, particularly at a festival, and to be honest I'm way more natural musically than as a performer.  I think the most important thing is how a mix sounds listening back - lots of the more 'showy' sets I can't get through live let alone listen to later.

BUT PERFORMANCE IS STILL IMPORTANT!  People want to see the DJ having fun, and that's not always natural for me.  

LIB has been a great confidence builder for me, my sets have steadily improved and my DJ energy even more :)  It's become home for me and I have a really nice following there after 5 years straight.

Much credit to the amazing sounding DJ booth provided by Todd Anisman of ChinoSound - who became Tropical's sound guru right after the first tome I played in 2016 - I felt my groove and put on at least a decent show along with a really nice house set.

Credit where credit's due, and bite my style all you want, it's super flattering and more importantly gives exposure to artists who likely get less than they deserve.  

Special shout out to Kevin McKay who I've been following since 90s Glasgow Underground - always one if my fave vinyl labels - for the peak moment in the middle of this set when the crowd absolutely exploded for 'Move Your Body'.  

And another to Christian Burkhardt for appearing the most in my track list - I guess you know who my favorite producer is lately :).

The final hours of the Chupacabra Carnival, recorded live from Rippers Row at Burning Man 2023. Myself and the Legend, Bobby Poppers, ripped an impromptu three hour B2B set to close the Burn down... The tent was packed until we were forced to shut it down around 5:30am. MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone that came and danced with us!!! No genres were spared in this mix...

PETTY POPPERS - Live @ Rippers Row (Burning Man 2023)

GUZ is making waves in the dance scene. After huge records like “Dancin Kinda Close” and “U Got My Love,” he teamed up with John Summit for ‘Thin Line’ on D4 D4nce (Defected) at the end of 2020, which received tons of BBC Radio 1 plays, became #1 on Beatport House chart and was selected as MixMarathon Track Of The Week on Dutch radio station SLAM! 

The success continued in 2021 with the release of 'Set U Free' on Sink or Swim. The track raised to the #1 overall position on Beatport within no time and stayed there for more than 4 weeks straight. Additionally, it was played many times on BBC Radio 1 and got massive support from other radio stations as well like KISS Dance, SLAM!, 538, and more. 

At the end of 2021, it turned out that “Set U Free” was the 2nd most-played track of the year at 1001Tracklists, the 2nd most-sold track on the Beatport Tech House genre, and #6 most-sold in general. On top of that, GUZ became the #11 best producer on 1001Tracklists.

Besides all these successes there were plenty of other releases with Jack Back and Ferreck Dawn on his own imprint Sink Or Swim, the remix for Mark Knight's “You Saw Me” on Toolroom, and many more. 

2022 kicked off with a remix of Ferreck Dawn's “Back Tomorrow” on Defected followed by a collab with Havoc & Lawn on Toolroom.
With the festival season being in full effect again, GUZ is touring all around again and performed his latest remix of Hayley May’s ‘Feel It’ live with her on stage during Forbidden Forest (UK).

In July, the long-awaited track “What a Life” with John Summit and Stevie Appleton was released on Off the Grid Records. This second collab between GUZ and John Summit gained a lot of support. It has over 2 million streams and was one of the songs used for the Ultra Miami Music Festival video! 

After playing many festivals during the summer, GUZ hosted his event for the first time during Amsterdam Dance Event called Out Of Office, which was sold out and a great success! 

2023 kicked off with a release on Insomniac Records together with Camden Cox called “Pouring Rain,” which already caught a lot of attention as well from DJs and Radio stations. This was followed by “Time After Time” on Tomorrowland Music, a remix for BLR’s “Lipstick” on Off The Grid, and his latest single “Get It On” together with Piem on Jacckies Music.

Now, GUZ is rolling into 2024 on fire as he teams up with iEDM Radio for our newest guest mix!

A few words about the mix - my first Essential Mix in 2013 which was a live recording from VIVa Warriors in Ibiza, but this is a studio mix, therefore it is not a mix aimed solely at the dance floor but a mix i wanted to have more depth and take the listener on a journey, yet STILL RETAIN my signature Darius Syrossian sound.

I have used music i have bought since i started collecting records in 1994 to the present day, i used Vinyl & Digital & it was recorded live in one take. as i said this isn't about present day anthems, but tracks selected to take you on a journey.

I am very happy with how it came out and the feedback i have had is  amazing. lots amazing tweets & inboxes from people out there which made me smile.

thanks to BBC Radio 1 for giving me the opportunity to do my Second Essential Mix, it is a huge honour for me.
