Bristol-based beatsmith, Revrt, blesses us with his debut Guest Mix for Rendah Mag. We've been following Liam closely for some time, and it was an honour to sit down and chat with him regarding his journey into music.

The words came to me after the American president's speech at the UN meeting.
It revolts me that people who know nothing about science, about what's happening in the world with climate change, the destroyed villages, the deaths from the extreme heat, the increasing number of storms and tornadoes... And yet we're told it doesn't exist because it's cold sometimes? Seriously?
How stupid does it take to come out with such nonsense?
It's my own way of venting, in a very personal way, the anger I felt while listening to him speak so proudly.

”As so many great schemes do, it started with a conversation in a pub. After several sporadic releases on Diffrent Music, including his renowned 2013 debut ‘Tongues’, label boss Dexta wanted more music from Fearful. One thing led to another, and suddenly an album was in the works.

The result is ‘Interference’; a body of work that is reflective not only of the personal idiosyncrasies and aspirations of its London-based producer, but of an artist who has truly been set free of expectations.

Harnessing his own inbuilt need to defy convention, and looking to influences such as classical game soundtracks, experimental mastermind Amon Tobin, and the brooding tones of Akkord and Lorn, Fearful has crafted an album that’s unpredictable yet cohesive, and definitive of his aim as an artist.

From the menacing ambient opener ‘Rocinante’, through the glitchy techno of ‘The Traveler’, skewed drum & bass of ‘Pulse 0’ and ‘Through The Mist’, to the roaring drone and pounding metal-inspired drumwork of closer ‘Gold To Dust’, it’s an album that demands full attention and repeat listening.

Nowhere is this free-roaming but pull-no-punches attitude summed up better than the title track. Building through eerie, twisted atmospherics — samples of electromagnetic interference, which can be found throughout the album — it clatters into a domineering breakbeat, before collapsing into a guttural, tribalist techno roller.

Where much of dance music draws on repetition, the concept of ‘Interference’ is simple: progression. Whether that be changing motifs within tracks, switching genres within the album, or developing upon Fearful’s own artistic strengths, it’s an idea never more at home than on Diffrent Music, and we are very proud to present it.”

Unchained launches into 2020 with it’s first multi-artist compilation celebrating its ethos and vision for edge-driven sound.

Forming part of a new annual release series, observing the Chinese lunar calendar, “The Year of The Rat” compilation brings together some of our favourite producers on the label and welcomes some new members into the Unchained family from various corners of the globe - including China, Europe, the UK, the States and Canada.

Coming out of China, we have Radiax, who represents part of the ever-evolving vein of Bass spreading through the region and for which we are proud to be nurturing on the label.

Forget Dem - Foreign Beggars Ft Jammer & Flowdan (Don Piper Remix)

After remaining close friends and regular creative partners for the past 6 years, London-based producer Drumterror and rapper Photes are finally dropping their first collaborative body of work - ‘6 Years, 14 Minutes’. Having cut their teeth in the North of England, before honing their craft in amongst London’s soundsystem and club community, ‘6 Years, 14 Minutes’ comprises four original tracks from the duo, showcasing a ruthless blend of grime, dubstep and hip-hop, in a style that is unequivocally their own.

The duo kick proceedings off with an aggressive entrance in the form of ‘Leave’, a grime-influenced track demonstrating the super-sharp production style that Drumterror has become renowned for, paired with an unstoppable flow from Photes that melts into an introspective hook. The track is laced with saturated orchestral sounds throughout, climaxing with a string-filled crescendo in the final sequence. This is followed by ‘Merchants’, the lead single from the EP, which effortlessly demonstrates the sound that the duo have become known for, flipping an 808-covered verse section into a distorted onslaught at 140 beats-per-minute. The third offering from the EP, ‘Middle Man’ features a verse from up-and-coming London rapper Sleepy, who’s become known in the social media sphere for his untouchable freestyling techniques. A lower and slower offering than the other tracks, ‘Middle Man’ exhibits an ice-cold ambience, with soft pianos, angelic choirs and heavily-reverbed pads featuring throughout. Bonus track ‘Offside’ brings a more dubwise-influenced sound to the table, touching on the roots of the sound that Drumterror and Photes have become known for, with guitar and bass melodies colliding throughout in a relatively upbeat closing track for the EP.
