this is just so endlessly cool tysm for posting

Back when I was living in NYC, I got an email from @kendrakicks telling me that Daft Punk were coming to Coney Island. That was all I needed to hear! I was too young to see them in 1997 for the Daftendirekt Tour, so I wasn't going to miss out on this one. And it did not disappoint!

I have to be honest, I was not expecting the show to be that good! I really did not like "Human After All," and wasn't sure why Daft Punk was playing a minor league baseball stadium and not a nightclub. But wow, this was really something else.

My favorite memory of that night was sitting in the stands and seeing these two young, geeky teenagers who reminded me of a younger version of myself, sitting right in front of us getting totally hyped as The Rapture were finishing their opening set. They were frantically checking their watches every few minutes. Finally I tapped one of them on the shoulder and asked why they came out to hear Daft Punk.

"Well, we're best friends, and every Bar Mitzvah we've ever been to, they always play 'One More Time' and we just love that song! So we told our parents we were going to the movies and then get some food, but we actually just drove his mom's minivan here from Long Island and we're staying out as long as we can so we can get home before curfew at 11pm!"

Lucky for followers of this Instagram account, you can re-live the glory of that night yourself, which was recorded on DAT by a friend of Simply Paradise guest dj @kendrakicks and was briefly posted online on a website called humanrobotsinbrooklyn.com (it got shut down within 48 hours of being posted).

But I have my copy of the recording, and I've posted it to my Soundcloud. If you listen closely, you can hear a very excited Kendra in the crowd, imploring you to drink and dance in the rain!
