I was working on a new track one morning, worrying about the lack of response we'd had overnight from our daughter, who was travelling.

An hour later, we got the news that she had died in her sleep. She was just 18.

It was touch and go whether I would carry on producing new music given the association with her death, and given the very strong emotions that music brings out.

It quickly become clear that music was my lifeline, and that producing new tracks helped me to grieve - to remain in touch with the torrent of emotions and express them creatively and in the only way I knew how. The music I produced from then on has been indelibly changed and shaped by these emotions.

My daughter loved music, and had eclectic and mature taste for a late teenager. Every track on this album was written during the first two years of my grief, and every one has a connection to my daughter, or to our grief.

This record is dedicated to her, and to all who have known grief. It is released on what would have been her 21st Birthday.

Bittersweet Nightmare

I would like to share with you the story behind the creation of this work. If you are interested in hearing the stories behind each of my musical pieces, simply let me know in the comments and I will be happy to tell you. The stories are based on real events and form the foundation of my music.

The performer on cello and vocals for this music was my late classmate Kiana from the music conservatory. I remember back in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic,  I received an order for a rap-style beat. I shared my initial idea with Kiana, which consisted of guitar, drums, and an 808 bass, and asked her to do an improvised performance on it. Kiana enthusiastically agreed, and we recorded this music as well as a few other short pieces in my personal home studio in the Zaafaraniyeh neighborhood of Tehran.

One of the outcomes was the music "Reflection". Unfortunately, despite the music being ready, for various reasons including the COVID-19 outbreak, this music was never officially released with the rap vocals on music platforms. It remained untouched.

I believe it was around 2021 when I learned of Kiana's passing. I attended her funeral with a friend, and recorded some sounds from the cemetery environment, which I later used at the beginning of the "Reflection" music.

Finally, in 2024, I decided to release this emotional piece of music, which reminds me of deep feelings like discovery, living in the moment, sudden changes in the world leading to lifestyle changes and isolation, and the experience of losing a friend who I may never find the equal of in this life - someone who so generously and selflessly breathed life into my simple initial idea, and several other pieces of music.

May her soul rest in peace. May this music live on and bring solace to those who have had similar profound experiences.

Hi. I'm Nima and my artistic name is " Don.Schwan ". I started my education to learn how to compose music in 2007. My first official instrumental track was released by a label in 2018, and in 2019 'My friend' helped me to attract some EDM listeners. Some years later I decided to write my own projects and sing on them, which I believe that they weren't really bad. In 2020, I was able to make some other listeners curious about my combined style of Iranian native instruments. It was 2021 and I went on a path to find my real character in music. Hence, " Don.Schwan " was born.
