Lobster Theremin follow up Palms Trax acclaimed Equation EP with another debutant in the shape of Snow Bone. The London-based artist, also known as Rob Hare, has had an industrious if secretive production past, trellising a mixture of techno and left-field house since the mid-90's. 

Propelled by a visceral infusion of techno, noise, industrial and EBM, this second EP owes as much to Basic Channel and Moodymann as it does to Hieroglyphic Being and Coil. It’s skewed sonics and frenzied momentum combining in such a ferocious way as to blow the mastering console at D&M four times! 

Title track Remote Viewer slams straight from the off, with the saturated bass and abrasive textures driven to hat-crushing levels. SHO 5537 provides a sinister centre-piece for the EP, blending dark, cinematic atmospheres with a doomsday kick drum and walls of stomach-turning white noise relentlessly scraped from the scorched surface of fried circuit boards. 

Flipping to the B-side sees a closer connection to LT's opening release, with 'Cubic' leaning on a vintage house lead line that's filtered over a deep, Terrence Dixon-esque groove. Taking the classic slant even further is Jared Wilson's remix of SHO 5537. Bearing pretty much zero resemblance to the original, this cut finds Jared in a more speculative mood, allowing the 303 to become an opulent layer in a pad-soaked warehouse lifter.

Typically releases from black light smoke are scant affairs reserved for the ardent vinyl enthusiasts who covet the Brooklyn producers unique aesthetic, a blend of analog house, new wave anthems and gritty punk rock.They arrive with little forewarning on the shelves of bespoke underground music purveyors and disappear just as quickly, leaving only his in demand live sets as trace evidence of a body of work that far exceeds his relatively scant discography. Truth be told, the Scissor and Thread mainstay is a prolific lifelong musician, singer and multi-instrumentalist whose work under various aliases spans and often breaches multiple genres. Here, on his first S&T offering solely for the digital domain, black light smoke let's slip two of the exclusive dance pop remixes he has done for his label mates Gry and Lisa B. "Lonely Lover" and "Lower" respectively, have been explosive highlights of his performances for two years now, over which time demand for these instantly infectious party bombs has reached fever pitch.
