Bolstered by the unshakable body of work behind it, Brooklyn-born Berlin-based techno label Chronicle reaches its milestone tenth release with its gaze fixed dead ahead. Ten releases in, it pays to make a strong, defiant statement of intent, toasting to what the label has been about so far. More important though is to remind those tuned in to take heed, because the next step is always the most significant.

From the artists crafting the music at its beating heart to the all-important design that packages the records, Chronicle is a label that pulls no punches in its creative vision. Given that the vision in question matches unbridled futurism with elegance and intensity, Consider This A Warning is a fitting title for a salvo of sounds that set the tone for where Chronicle will head in its coming chapters.

Chronicle is a label that has always thrived on the evocative power of eerie, tension riddled techno, and this compilation builds on those foundations and reaches out to a swathe of tempos and intensities without ever losing that haunting spark that has shaped out the label to date. Delsin Records' Inertia series is back with a powerful four tracker from Yan Cook. The producer from Ukraine has also released Delsin’s main label and associated Ann Aimee, as well as Planet Rhythm and Cooked. He makes straight up techno that arrests your attention and does just that again here. 

'Toucan' is first and is a spangled, underwater techno track with gurgling lines wrapping round shuffling percussion and insistent drums. It's one to get into your head, while 'Puffin' is more physical, with more warped synths and paddy drums woven together into a fluid, rippling groove that never lets up. The drums on 'Dialogue' are deep and land with real resonance while dubby chords rattling out to the horizon. Last of all 'Flamingo' is the most manic of the lot, with hi speed synths and booming drums all coming together to make for powerful, sub shaking and room filling techno madness.

Russia's Nocow refuses to mourn the failed experiment of human contact on his Turbo debut EP, delivering cathartic anthems alongside giant warehouse jams you are free to call “deep” and “cavernous” with full knowledge of the risks involved.   On lead track “Never Leave Me,” the Saint Petersburg-based creator of “Cloud Techno” runs emotive vocals through a hazmat filter and into the emo-globin contained within your fluorescent-green blood cells. Meanwhile, after-hours love-weapons “Back On,” “Avalon,” and “Soder” each take different routes to activating the phantom arousal mechanisms of your soul. Finally, some people have been calling closer “Starfall” a “magical ticket to Vocal Sample Heaven” and “a timeless all-inclusive ravecation from the cares of this workaday world." While we would never choose to word it that way, we concede that both descriptions are generally pretty accurate.  In these times of social isolation and uncertainty, we remind you that it’s vital your Restless Heart Syndrome not turn into Reckless Heart Syndrome. Instead of frequenting illicit “Droplet Transmission Parties,” why not peep the vast network of Landline Raves we’ve been hearing about via our vast network of peeper-drones?
