Back in the day, around '81/'82, Sister Nancy (Ophlin Russell-Myers) recorded a tune on the Stalag riddim - the seminal Bam Bam. Since then I've played it to death be it in clubs and pubs, at home, or in the car on a sunny Irish country road with the top down. 
Around 15 years ago a big beat remix turned up and went straight into my DJ bag often to be played with, instead of, or cut over the original. And that's all I've done here, put a big fuck off beat over Soom T's cut. Same riddim, fresh vocal, new generation. The circles and cycles of reggae and dancehall move ever far-ward. 

Ophlin Russell-Myers, meanwhile .. she's now an accountant in a bank .... pfft.

Mahala Rai Banda, Romania’s funkiest Gypsy brass band, blew minds with their 2009 album ”Ghetto Blasters”. Amongst the many hyper-fast tunes rocking on that disc there was one of sweet, laid-back grooves called ‘Balkan Reggae’.

‘Balkan Reggae’ found Mahala Rai Banda paying homage to their soul brothers in Jamaica. In the year that Jamaica is celebrating 50 Years of Independence, Mahala Rai Banda chose to reach out to their Jamaican brethren and invited London-based top dub remixer Jstar to give ‘Balkan Reggae’ a sonic turbo charge.

Long celebrated for his classic reggae hip-hop mashups, Jstar regularly tours the planet dropping good grooves on party people and pushing bass culture forward. Jstar, who knows a phat groove when he hears one, is a big Mahala Rai Banda fan. His dub remix of ‘Balkan Reggae’ keeps the tune’s lyrical, sunshine vibe while giving it an urban electro tweak and twist. Plastics in the oceans is a problem that is killing numerous amounts of marine life, it is eaten by many animals and also fed to their young. After watching midway 'a message from the gyre' (link below @ vimeo) myself and the doc were inspired to pass this message on to our friends in the best way we could 'Music'.

MYTH: There is a giant island of solid garbage floating in the Pacific.
FACT: There are millions of small and microscopic pieces of plastic, about .4 pieces per cubic meter, floating over a roughly 5000 square km area of the Pacific. This amount has increased significantly over the past 40 years.
We would also like to mention the words 'pacific garbage patch and twice the size of texas' are mostley regarded as a myth, it has only been used in the track for artistic purposes as this is what is quoted in many videos. most of the plastic in the ocean is small. There is so much information that could be written here, but i feel the links below explain the facts better,  there are so many sites that are dedicated to fighting plastic pollution, that l can only name but a few, the following ones inspired us to make this track, please visit them all and give your support in whatever way you can:
