This year we are inviting people from different areas of the music industry, alongside producers and DJs, to showcase a wider array of voices and perspectives on music and music scenes. Mix 13 is the first of these mixes,  a high energy selection of club bangers and the world debut mix from ENYO (@enyo-face).

"A homage to my teenage years in New Jersey. My integration to Black American society after moving to America and my first solid introduction to electronic music. ENYO has worked in the music industry for many years in New York, Berlin and Amsterdam. She is a booking agent to acts such as E-Saggila and Kia and is also recognised within the techno community for her past roles with Herrensauna and Odd Fantastic. She also works in music publishing and fashion and is currently a booking agent for indie model agency VEIN.

It’s in someone’s big living room, only a few lights, no fancy stuff but someone is running the lights all night. Nag champa incense, big hifi sound system (loud but not too loud), it’s free to get in and there is nothing for sale!!

Advice to beginning djs?

Be kind, patient & don’t judge (yourself or others), practice every day even if it’s just one blend after work, learn what everything does on the gear even if you don’t think you need it

Describe the best dj/live set you have seen this year? 

Bill Converse at Redux in Buffalo. 5 hours of funky techno madness on the ground floor of a house that was heaving from the bass and the dancers. 

Most underrated artist at the moment?

So many but here are 3 from Detroit--Wet Dog, DJ PIA & Nicole Misha.

What is your prediction on the next music genre re-vamp 2020?

If I say Chicago house & muzic box jams are gonna be cool again will it happen?

Fav club drink?

Describe what you would want your rider to look like as a DJ all star playing Ibiza…

Kind of like a buffet spread of roasted & grilled vegetables, cauliflower, zucchini, Murasaki sweet potatoes… also gonna need flights & hotels for my friends of course

Favorite DJ trick?

If you mix out 2/4/8 bars too early, start backspinning/baby scratching the other record, preferably into the echo fx. Then you’re not just waiting for something to happen, you’re building tension! Shoutout Scott Zacharias who I saw doing this

Describe the first moment where you had an epiphany about your love for music?

Music really snuck up on me over a few years but around 5 or 6am one day in summer 2009, after my senior year of high school, being up all night in my parents’ basement by myself, softly spiraling out in anxiety over my friendships, not really knowing what feelings were or how to deal with having them, I made a loop with some chords and a bassline that didn’t make me feel better but made it feel ok that the moment was happening. That feeling really stuck with me.

DJ dream of yours?

Running & playing at a 100-200 person space that is totally legal and somehow independent of the need to make money :)

Ideal b2b partners in crime?

When Davis Galvin and I play together we definitely get away with a variety of crimes

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

Whipnotiq is a sorceress of unique sounds spanning the electronic music spectrum. Sharpening her craft at influential underground parties in LA and passionately building her record collection over the past seven years, Miranda Calzada has shared the bill with techno elite such as Function, Rrose, Cio D'Or, Lucy, Voices from the Lake, Daniel Bell, Carlos Souffront, and Ø [Phase], to name a few. She currently curates the Neptunian Influence podcast, an electro-focused mix series, which features artists such as 214, James Shinra, ADAB, Kiernan Laveaux and Sassmouth. In 2017 she participated in the second installation of the Walking & Falling DJ mentorship program in Chicago, where she also performed alongside the inimitable Eris Drew.
