Whipnotiq is a sorceress of unique sounds spanning electronic music and beyond. Classically-trained on the violin since she was six years old, the curator behind Neptunian Influence is somewhat of a renaissance woman. She received her B.A. in Art History from UCLA and currently works as a museum educator. Sharpening her craft at influential underground parties in LA and passionately building her record collection over the past eight years, Miranda Calzada has shared the bill with techno elite such as Function, Rrose, Cio D'Or, Lucy, Voices from the Lake, Daniel Bell, Carlos Souffront, and Ø [Phase], to name a few. As the purveyor of Neptunian Influence, an electro-focused mix and event series, she has brought on rising and established talents such as 214, James Shinra, ADAB, Kiernan Laveaux and Sassmouth. 

It's worth mentioning, she is alumni of Walking & Falling, a DJ/production mentor program for burgeoning women and nonbinary artists. In November 2019 she was invited to DJ at Ellen Allien's 'Vinylism' held at Stellar Remnant’s record shop in DTLA. Quite a lot to accomplish already. We can't wait to see what lies ahead!

Live Recording at MIRAJ 10-10-21

Here is my live minimal set from Dirty Epic's first solo and one year anniversary show on October 5, 2013. On that evening, I had the (surreal) honor of opening for Rrose, Function, and Lena Deen B2B Ed Vertov. Every set was on point and truly next level techno. Dirty Epic had a very successful show and the vibes were nothing short of perfect. I feel so lucky to have been a part of this show and I can't wait for our next one-a Prologue Label Night featuring Brendon Moeller, Mike Parker, Lena Deen and AJ Calzada at Los Globos in Los Angeles on November 1st.

Drumroll please...here's my very first electronically produced track! I'm looking very forward to my new journey in producing electronic music. You can probably count on some classical music inspiration from me. Hopefully some techno tracks are on their way as well! 

Thank you very much to Meowmans for introducing me to the production side of Ableton and helping me to make this track sound alive! I look forward to more collaborations with him in the near future! 

This track is inspired by a real absinthe fairy that my best friend and I saw at this 20s restaurant and bar in LA last week. Who knew absinthe fairies really existed!?

Selective Thrusts 10: Birthday at the Black Lodge 
Artist: Whipnotiq 

In a sense, this mix is the 'part II' to the very first Selective Thrusts that I made back in January. The inspiration for this mix draws from my love for David Lynch's Twin Peaks and this sound that I am all about right now, which is techno infused with a combination of gritty acid, breaks, and electro. It was also my intention to use tracks that sound kind of spooky, since Halloween is fast approaching, and I'm an October baby (hence the birthday mix). I've included some of my favorite tracks by my favorite producers of 2014. 

This is a musical story that should be enjoyed in its entirety. There are many twists and turns! Agent Dale Cooper narrates the journey in his recordings to Diane, and the sounds and words compliment one another. There are a few other 'play-ons' in the mix, but I should stop writing now and let you enter my birthday at the Black Lodge <3

Jeremiah Green is the true definition of a DJ. Born and raised in Kingman, Arizona, Jeremiah has been DJing for about 13 years and he knows no musical boundaries when it comes to DJing. He has a knowledge of and can effortlessly play nearly any genre of electronic music, but he goes far beyond into classic rock, world music, and anything else that you can think of. Known for his marathon sets, Jeremiah always plays what he wants and manages to set just the right mood each and every time. Subversive went on last that night, after Rrose, and I remember I had to leave the party to take a friend home. I decided to go back to the party because I knew the music would still be going off! Subversive was killing it! He had the whole room shaking and there were still people going crazy on the dance floor till 6am. Whipnotiq is a sorceress of unique sounds from emotive to oddball, often within the realms of electro music and beyond. She cherishes the music she loves and passionately collects and shares it with others. Based in Long Beach, California, Miranda Calzada has been honing her craft on mediums from Ableton controller to turntables for over a decade. By curating Neptunian Influence, an electro-leaning mix & event series, she brings forth sounds which incite “bright companion clouds and dark vortices.” After bringing the celebrated Neptunian Influence Detroit Brunch to a close in 2024, Miranda's next event will be with Drexciya collaborator-artist AbuQadim Haqq on February 1, 2025 at Bowers Museum, where she serves as Director of Public Programs.

This is my set from Off the Grid's Fallen Angel party in Los Angeles on Friday, August 5, 2016. I was really happy to be part of this all female DJ lineup featuring Mesme, Sarah Strandberg, Whipnotiq, Rosie Love and Alleul Amor. This was a techno party and I got to play at 3:30am- something I rarely get to do- so it was a lot of fun playing this selection of tracks at that time. These are some of my favorite artists, labels and tracks, and I hope you enjoy losing yourself in these sounds as much as I did while I was playing them! 

On another note, this is the final mix for my Selective Thrusts podcast. Selective Thrusts will be followed by a new techno and electro focused project, The Upside Down, which will consist of a podcast, original productions and maybe even a party. Whipnotiq is a sorceress of unique sounds spanning the electronic music spectrum. Sharpening her craft at influential underground parties in LA and passionately building her record collection over the past seven years, Miranda Calzada has shared the bill with techno elite such as Function, Rrose, Cio D'Or, Lucy, Voices from the Lake, Daniel Bell, Carlos Souffront, and Ø [Phase], to name a few.
