Neptunian Influence, Fourty-Three | Featuring @djchupacabras

A mysterious creature is emerging from Neptune’s Great Dark Spot and making its presence known. We are thrilled to report a rare sighting of the Chupacabras. Immerse yourself in the tale; beware the attack! 

The London-based DJ and producer is emerging from the depths and leaving impressions far and wide. We anticipate that Chupacabras’ upcoming Zement EP will be recognized as an electro release of the year. Chupacabras appeared on L.I.E.S. incredible 2020 comp, ‘How Sick Do You Get When You Look at Yourself,’ in addition to serving up a solo EP for the New York-based label last year as well. 

Chupacabras launched his own label, Draconian Steps, in February and produced the first release, a limited 7-track cassette under the guise Acid Freq. Stay tuned for more from the young label and output under new aliases coming soon. 

For a consistent Chupacabras sighting, signal Destinations Unknown, his monthly residency on Intergalactic FM.

Delectable and devious with light seeping through, explore the far-reaches of the Great Dark Spot with Francois Dillinger. The Detroit-based producer and DJ released an album, MINDFRAME: CYCLES, on @specimenrecords in 2021 and has also appeared on labels including @diffusereality, @naturalsciences and @lloydstellar's @ldirecords. He also has a monthly show, MINDFRAME, on Deep Space Radio. We had the pleasure of watching Francois Dillinger perform a live set at this year's Movement and are so thankful to host this superb DJ mix by him.

FABiOLA is a Miami based DJ/producer with roots in Detroit. Her sound explores new and origins of dance music, with depths of acid and bass. She is known to have a versatile style and love for funky robotic rhythms. She recently joined forces with other local DJs to run Juicy Fruit - a monthly queer dance party on Miami Beach. Regardless of time or space, FABiOLA invokes a Midwest flair to every set.

Interesting Results hails not from Rotterdam but that other place below sea level: New Orleans. As a lifelong lover of electro (and discordant noises in general) this playlist was thoughtfully curated from some of her favorite songs lately. She spent her teenage years exchanging mix tapes and CDs with friends and has been DJing on and off for over two decades starting with her local college radio station KLSU-FM where she co-hosted an electronic and experimental music show called the Kitchen Sink for three years. Her transition from vinyl to digital occurred only more recently though she has no plans to part with her record collection! While she is a high school teacher by day and a selector at heart, it is her love of dancing that most influenced her shift to DJing in club environments and the dancefloor is often where you’ll find her. Even still, she’s constantly scouring everywhere and anywhere for new tracks with the same fervor that a research scientist devotes time to their own field of study. While the electronic music scene in New Orleans might be small, it is quite special and steadily growing; here’s to hoping this mix might catch the attention of some of her favorite acts and help to bring them here! Neptunian Influence, Seventy-Five | Featuring @c-m-d

CMD is a Montreal-based producer and DJ. She is the host of Modular Systems, a biweekly radio show on the campus-community station CKUT 90.3 FM. Over the past two decades she has been a member of various DJ-producer crews organizing events in the city. Currently she works with moodswings to bring leftfield bass and techno to Montreal dancefloors. Versatile and discerning, her DJ sets and live performances draw from her wide range of influences and interests and her love of synth-laden techno, electro, and ambient music. Her productions can be found on labels including Fixed Rhythms, PPRZ, and Jacktone.

*Since releasing this mix, the artist now goes by James Shinra. 

James Shinra is a London-based electronic music producer who creates “acid laced braindance, resonating electro and addictive melodies. Lush and seamless production, as good in the sun as it is the depth of night.” With releases on Feel My Bicep, Balkan Vinyl, and WIDE, his most notable EPs include November 2015 release “Ball & Chain” on London’s @null-void; his March 2017 self-released "Orbit"; and “Meteor” on Spain’s @analogicalforce released May 2017. He also contributed to the Spanish label’s “Voiceless” series alongside Kettel, Dwaallicht, EOD, and the late great Microlith.

Glide into 2018 with this masterful “space opera,” a gift made with love and intention by the beautiful soul that is Kiernan Laveaux. I feel like this mix and its story (see below) truly embodies everything that I want Neptunian Influence to be and I couldn’t be more ecstatic to share it with you to carry into the new year.

Kiernan Laveaux is 1/3 of the team behind @IN-TRAINING, Cleveland's queer electronic music night, and while she has only been DJing since 2015, her DJ sets and depth of musical knowledge make it clear why she has already made a name for herself. It comes as no surprise that @keinobjekt named her as one of the 11 brilliant DJs he found out about in 2017. You can catch her in Detroit twice this week: TONIGHT at Marble Bar and Friday at Takoi. Other upcoming gigs include Chicago on January 5, Berlin on January 12, and then back in Cleveland for In Training with @octoocta on January 20. I've been lucky enough to see her play out once now and it's something special! As Laveaux's bio states, "she exists only to channel warmth and love to her friends and other transgender dancers through her DJ sets."

Very happy to be contributing this entry to the Neptunian Influence series curated by Whipnotiq, after having met and bonded with her over our shared love of electro sound in Chicago in October 2017, and dancing in the sun during the electro brunch she curated over Detroit weekend 2017. Endless inspiration for this mix stemming from extended moments of light and darkness in my life surrounding the solar eclipse of August 2017 to the end of October 2017, the performances from @djkiddo, @antiphase, and @214_electro at the October 2017 Planet Chicago party, the unconditional love and warmth gifted to me by @sassmouth throughout my journey in the world of music, the energies transmuted by a convergence of people who exist outside the realms of cisgender heterosexual manhood attempting to convey the gift of aural storytelling to themselves and others, expanding pathways, megabus rides, trans-neptunian objects, and water. I applied all of this to the tale of a group of intergalactic trans mermaids located in the water of the rings of Saturn who exist in tranquility until their lives are compromised by physical and metaphysical invaders that they are forced into battle against. They are banished from their home in the process into the realms of the universe that lie beyond Neptune and the Kuiper Belt, and must chart a journey home, eventually making the long return to their waters of love and freedom within Saturn's hold. I encourage you to imprint yourself upon this concept while listening to this mix. The influence of Neptune is felt in the dictation of the water that comprises 73% of the human brain and heart, which holds the ability to influence many of our physical and metaphysical actions. Do not be alarmed by the strength of ever changing tides, as the waves inside of you will always sway in beautiful and enchanting rhythm. Effort Won't Betray You ❤

The presence of a new dark vortex is confirmed on the eighth and farthest known planet from the Sun. Lost Trax lead us to the heavy heart of Neptune’s Great Dark Spot for the one year anniversary of Neptunian Influence Podcast. 

An anonymous collective of artists, Lost Trax create raw, emotive music in the forms of deep and infectious electro, acid and techno. While the producers have their individual projects, they join forces to make a ‘Lost Track’ when inspiration strikes. “Combining acidic twisted basslines with tight Detroit electro elements,” Lost Trax consider early Detroit Techno to be a major influence in their sound. 

Since 2006, Lost Trax have released nine Singles and EPs on respected labels such as @tabernacle-records, @shipwrec and @frustratedfunk. The Saturnian System / The Sequel, recently issued on the celebrated @delsinrecords, represents a solid retrospective of the collective’s earlier work that appeared on various releases between 2006 and 2010. Lost Trax return to Delsin this spring with a new EP.  

While Lost Trax prefer to keep their identities in the shadows, they’ve performed across Europe and recently headlined @tresorberlin with a live performance. Notably, they also performed at @mosaique-space in Saint Petersburg, Russia on New Year’s Eve 2017. It goes without saying, we hope to see Lost Trax on the West Coast sooner than later!

Brussels-based promoter, curator and DJ, Laetitia (real name) is intensely connected with sounds and their encompassing spheres. With an insatiable curiosity, numerous projects in the Belgian underground scene, and collaborations with international artists and organizations, she recently started to spread this love affair with electronic music from the other side of the booth. For this mix, Tónlistina delivers a sound collage composed of her influences and favorite labels/producers. The associate of @lackrec is making his mark on the dance music world with highly impressive releases so far, all of which prove he’s got a special sound. Gian has multiple solo and collaborative EPs, most recently delivering four electro/techno heaters on 2019’s LACK 018. Next up, watch out for his remix for @djfrankie63 on @LawrenceLee's @SystemA7A label. You can catch the rising artist performing across Europe, particularly Germany, and hopefully on the west coast sooner than later. To celebrate three years of Neptunian Influence, we are delighted to present a mix by an electro hero, 214. Hailing from the majestic North Bend, located outside of Seattle and treasured for being the filming location of Twin Peaks, 214’s home has been the inspiration for many of his timeless pieces of music, which in turn have influenced electro lovers around the world. The snowscape transmission that he’s provided for Neptunian Influence seems to transport you to his daily surroundings - only before an inevitable trip to outer space :)

With two full-length albums and over a dozen singles and EPs under his belt, 214’s most recent release is ‘Rex And Shuffle’ on Steffi’s @klakson-records. In March, watch out for his ‘Si View EP’ being released via Sync 24’s @cultivated-electronics. 

This mix also serves as the second part in a series highlighting artists from the Pacific Northwest. Part one was delivered by @tufseattle’s @livwutang, who recently performed alongside 214 and @dbridge_exitrecords at Seattle’s @kremwerk.
