Today we have the absolute honour to have one of the all-time greats strengthening our podcast roster; Carl is one of those enduring producers who pops up all over the history of UK house and electro from the early ‘90s onward. He collaborated often in his early career, most famously making house music with our January guest Ralph Lawson, releasing his music at labels like 20:20 Vision, Fundamental Records, Craigie Knowes & plenty more throughout his career. 

  It is his urge for 808’s starting in ’96, that got everybody’s attention.  As Voice Stealer, Carl innovated what electro could be, bending the fleet-footed percussion of electro around experimental sounds and samples on the 1997 album The All Electric House and 1998’s Electromotive Force EP, both for Subvert. Together with Daz Quayle he formed IL.EK.TRO in 1998, which yielded two boundary-pushing and entertaining EPs for Klang Elektronik and a more damaged version of their sound in 2004 for Modern Love.   

Yet his most prolific electro project (in our most humble opinion) is Silicon Scally, which has come out with seven albums and two dozen EPs worth of extremely diverse electro music released on Cultivated Electronics, CPU & Electrix Records. 

  This live-set is what we would have gotten from his planned touring last year, and it is everything you thought it would be! We want to point out his Facebook page as he is educating the new generation about music production, technology, his weapons of choice(mainly coffee ;-) ) as well as just being a dope and genuine place to be! So for now…

Dexorcist was brought up on 80's Electro, Hip Hop and Miami Bass, graduating to Acid House, Bleeps, Techno and beyond. 

Heavily influenced by the legendary RIP parties at Clink street and other warehouse events around London's then shady east end wastelands.

During the early 90's he helped form the excellently named Fear Teachers sound system, which morphed through various incarnations including KDU, before ending up as the also brilliantly named Dead Silence Syndicate. 

An Electro producer with a long string of quality releases and remixes on labels such as Battle Trax, SMB, Fuel, not forgetting the label he co-ran with Keith Tenniswood; Control Tower. 

Some up and coming releases on Yellow Machines, Super Rhythm Trax, Libertine, M.U.S.A, Further Electronix & Cyber Domain.

It took only one time seeing Anthony Rother perform live for Mr. Dillinger to become completely obsessed with the idea of playing to a crowd without turntables (it was on a DVD and not even in-person: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5x8Rmd71Ro). He’d seen many live acts before as a student of the underground in Detroit and was already a DJ at the time, but something about seeing Rother’s mystique switched on a light that could not be turned off. That idea took nearly 14 years to become reality, but he finally unveils his first ever live PA exclusively for @DarkScienceElectro. 

Starting as an Electro/breaks DJ in 2000, and then continuing into production in 2010 he has finally started to find his stride this year. Francois Dillinger’s 2019 releases appear on @elektrodos, @blindallies, @naturalsciences, @ukonx, @dionysian-mysteries, and a full-length album on @narrowgauge. 2020 already has a slew of releases scheduled, including a second full-length album.

“For Scott Zacharias’s No Way Back: Streaming From Beyond set we asked him to bridge the 24 hour continuous NWB into the Outer Space room, coming on directly after Mozhgan’s deeply mesmerizing set. At the physical event, No Way Back has 2 rooms. The No Way Back room, and the Outer Space room. Scott has a unique function unseen anywhere else in the world, coming on at dawn in the Outer Space room after a night of ambient and experimental music, taking an audience that is often laying on the mats on the floor in a blissed out state, and elevating them first in mind, and then in body as he channels his own freeform take on the sleaze tradition. He starts formless and then begins to bring in compelling and psychedelic gems, inching the tempo up so slightly over the course of many hours until the whole floor is pulsating in an under 110 bpm heaven. After nights of major psychedelic experiences, this allows for a kind of mental freedom. This is so crucial, the weekend is a marathon, and you come in to hear Scott to be recharged, it is food for the mind and soul, as he goes from ambient to everywhere you need to be. For the stream, we asked our favorite dharma bum to do this in reverse, since it was a one room stream, starting with NWB and ending in Outer Space, he began with the deep groove and slowly disintegrates it into oblivion, leaving you in Outer Space as only he can. We asked for a 3 hour set and got 4 hours, and we couldn’t edit one out, it's just too pure.” — BMG

No Way Back: Streaming From Beyond

A 36+ hour take on No Way Back, with 24 hours of the No Way Back room residents and 12+ hours of the Outer Space room immediately following. An excess of the mindmelting wormhole dance experience followed by many hours of floating in space and beyond. When we considered podcasting some sets, we decided to just release them all, one week at a time, in an order different than their original broadcast, with the concept of bringing further ideas with the continuum to light.

For us the toughest moment of the pandemic shut down was the thought that we could not gather on Memorial Day weekend for our annual rite of No Way Back. We need our community now more than ever, to connect and to feel free, in a world of shifting real and unreal realities, sequestered in isolation, how can we get together? Time feels different now, we have more patience for everything, so we applied that space for exploration to the sets at No Way Back, extending them to 3 hours so the DJs can fully explore their ideas.

The Electrifyin' Mojo would say "if you reach the end of your rope, just tie a knot and don’t let go" and this stream and podcasts are our knot. This was the first ever NWB without a defined space, without the transformational art of Amber Gillen and crew, let's hope we can get together in the future safely. Grab a little bit of netting or a parachute, turn on some red lights, move into another dimension. Please stay safe and live to dance another day.
