As a dance music obsessive and keen cultural observer, @ben-brumm keeps tabs on the UKG revival. He painstakingly crafted a mix that highlights the tensions in the genre, blending many new UKG releases with reissues of tracks first released in the nineties. The mix itself focuses on the lighter side of UKG. Ben described digging for the mix with lighter tracks in mind in part as a distraction from COVID.
 
“With the pandemic...I really fell in love with that lighthearted side of UK Garage, because it helped keep my mood normalized a bit. It was like therapy I guess, [listening to] really catchy UKG music that gets stuck in your head. I would wake up in the morning [with] a melody in my head, and I’d be like ‘I need to find this melody’ because I’ve heard it within the past two or three weeks in a mix...sooner or later you come across it and you’re like ‘Fuck! That was it! That was the track that I’ve been obsessed with or hearing in my head for weeks.”

This @mutualidentities flyover set began as a rehearsal for an unusual gig: a friend’s wedding reception. Given their versatility, MI could emulate a Klezmer band or bust out a cover of “Electric Boogie” if they had to, but this was no ordinary wedding party.

“It was on a proper sound rig and stuff...it was bangin’, dude. It was so much fun, [it was in] a very intimate space...but it still had all the energy of a kick-ass dance party. That was the coolest wedding I’ve ever been to.”

Consistently funky, vibey, and dynamic, their flyover set is an improvisational hour with intentionality at its core, serving up 60 minutes of compelling “instrument-driven dance music.”

This December we will be releasing the sophomore album by Polish producer Blossom @lublossom, entitled „The Longest Journey“ on vinyl. As a bonus we added his debut album „Blue Balloons“ to the package, which will be pressed on vinyl for the first time.

"The Longest Journey" (2013) represents the musical journey of Łukasz Czajewski, depicting a one year cycle in his life, rich in thoughts, important life-events and experiences. He processed influences like nature, mind-created images and innervisions to create an album about one's journey into the understanding of the world, soul, consciousness and creation. While seasons came and went, he reflected on these events and gained valuable experiences. Every single track has its unique meaning and is a part of this inner expedition. Ultimately, it all comes down to one question: Where are YOU heading in Your journey?

Several months of hard work between January 2010 and October 2011 resulted in "Blue Balloons", an album filled with delicately arranged downtempo guitar motifs, distinctive complex rhythms and complementing rich basslines, all encased in the unique aura that sorrounds Blossom's debut album and gives it a deeply atmospheric feel.

All tracks Written & produced by Łukasz Czajewski in Leszczyny, Poland. Saxophone on "Don't Grow Up", "Signs of a New Day", "We Go" by Aleksander Papierz. Vocals on "Dusk" by JEHST. Mastered by Sven Friederichs. Back side artwork by Monika Burzynska. Front cover artwork by Felicia Simion.

We all dreamt or wished to explore imaginary & far away grounds, between no man’s lands and intangible panoramas. Border 50 is a hymn to this laid-off concept, when frontiers and delineations dissipate to a wilder breadth, where, as Baudelaire would say, "Everything is beauty, luxury, calm and intense pleasure ».

Swiss-born artist Moreno Antognini aka Master Margherita treats us to a mystical and meditative album driven by low-end quiet pulses, swaddling guitar basslines, dense granular pads, giving a powerful homage to a certain definition of Doom Jazz, Stoner Rock and Nordic Ambient with influences from Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, Bill Laswell or Biosphere’s works.

Carefully crafted over the course of two years, this « Border 50 » album stands apart, a return to the source for the artist, hallmark of Master Margherita’s irrefutable multi-instrumentist and storyteller talent.

in our opening mix, tabby(@queerbatbabe) sets the stage for the flyover series. the minneapolis-based dj feels opening “gives you an opportunity to both play the slower, deeper cuts as well as being able to play more of a diverse sound than a set later in the night...while you might be playing to a much smaller crowd, you have the opportunity to start off much slower and bring up the energy. you can play a wider variety of sounds and create a narrative.”
