Ever the shape -shifters and genre-benders, on their newest EP 'Lullaby' San-Francisco dance darlings PillowTalk move away from their innovative brand of housified soul and look toward the misty terrain of lush, 80s-inspired synth-pop. Turn down the collars on your Izods, switch on your Walkman, and drift into that delicious space between...between waking and sleeping, love and loss, making out and making up.

A swirl of Rhodes, tape delay, and pedals, 'Lullaby' is more a dreamscape than a track. Inspired by work from acclaimed illustrator David Polonsky, 'Lullaby' is a sonic map of that perpetual dusk in which the tender of heart dwell. Cascading handclaps, delicate bubbles and squeaks, and a characteristically spare kick are cut through by a punchy live bassline that exudes more humanity than a million synthesizers could ever imagine. For a sense of the mood just imagine sweet caresses through a fog that barely obscures your lover's face, or an old teen romance on faded VHS. When vocalist Sammy D, sounding more pensive and breathless than ever before, obliquely asks an unnamed someone, 'you're not a weapon, are you' one wonders if he's not thinking about PillowTalk's own ability to destroy our own expectations about what dance music is supposed to be.

For all the sullen moodiness of 'Lullaby,' the EPs B-side, 'We All Have Rhythm,' brings a return of the sassy, white-boy R&B swagger we've come to know and love from the boys. No more feeling sorry for ourselves, we're all invited to sing along over a slice of uplifting electronic psych-funk that is sure to wake up any slumbering afterparty.

After dropping the out-of-nowhere “Cross Countries” single earlier this week, Cecil Otter announces the immediate release of his new EP Dear Echo, available digitally through Doomtree Records.  Longtime Doomtree crew member and behind-the-scenes production wizard, Cecil has spent years developing his unique and signature sound, and Dear Echo pushes the genre boundaries even further for his most modern, lush, and experimental offering yet.  Recorded in Fall Creek, WI at Justin Vernon’s renowned April Base Studios, the six-track EP includes three brand new songs alongside their accompanying instrumentals, with production, songwriting, and vocals masterfully handled by Cecil himself.  Available now for download, Dear Echo will also see a vinyl release later this year.  Standard and deluxe LP  packages are now available for pre-order from the Doomtree webstore, and include limited-edition white vinyl and an extremely rare signed-and-numbered screen-print series featuring the artwork Cecil created during the Dear Echo recording sessions.

After self-producing several of his own solo albums throughout the 2000’s, Cecil Otter rose to fame as one half of the mashup duo Wugazi, a remix project that overlapped the gritty raps of Wu-Tang Clan with the sounds of post-rock vets Fugazi.  The project went instantly viral and garnered high praise from the likes of NBC, Rolling Stone, MTV, and even Jay-Z’s own site, Life + Times.  Dear Echo marks Cecil’s first new collection of solo material since 2008’s Rebel Yellow.

Today is the first release of my new project, In Other Words, which will consist of four separate EP releases this year. Each release will have its own feel based on a set series of albums that have had a super influential effect on me. To make the music I recorded some friends of mine (Dessa, Aby Wolf, Jessie Daley) singing some vocal lines that I then manipulated and recorded my friend Nate Kinsella playing some drum tracks. Oh man you guys, it makes me so happy to be putting out new solo stuff. It’s been a minute. OK, talk to you soon.

And when I'm done i throw a deuce up in the atmosphere. Come in peace or you might get your Adam's apple speared. With all these sharp witted lines and verses I'm a threat to any opponents I find roaming through dem atlases. And they wonder why I can be so cavalier about it, I run with a team of champions let's be clear about it, Trust me, I can bullshit my first 12 bars then leave the final four with a winning shot that surprises everybody. Cuz im a lyrical beast in the street dem. Gods illest gladiator with a muheffing ink pen. I got Almoravids moonlighting as my henchmen, the dopest rhyme slayers from out the deep end.
