The latest release from Nikko.Z's Dopamine White finds the label showcasing new interpretations of KYOTTO's ‘I Am Back' EP. Originally released in August of 2020 the three track showcase marked the Sri Lankan's label debut, furthering his steady climb through the progressive underground. Now looking to revitalize the tracks for 2021, Dopamine White invites Deviu and Carlos Pires to re-imagine two selections from the release. 

First up and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Antimony' is Rafael Lasso aka Deviu. Based in Pasto, the Colombian artist began his journey into electronic music production in 2014 under a variety of alias', before eventually settling on Deviu in 2020. Created as an outlet to explore the realms of deep, progressive and organic house, Rafael soon landed releases on Nick Warren's The Soundgarden and Diesis Records. Now making his Dopamine White debut, Deviu provides a stunning take on ‘Antimony'. Anchored by a warm, driving groove, its energetic core comes up quickly, with layers of finely tuned percussion and electric rhythms uniting for a swing heavy framework. Hopeful overlays marry emotive chord changes across the first act, elevating mood into a cinematic-style break, before a timely drop sparks an effects laden finale.  

Rounding out the release and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Sweet Escape' is Carlos Pires who makes his label debut. The Brazilian artist has been releasing his unique take on progressive house and techno for the better part of a decade. Releases for Dear Deer, Mind Connector Records and Vision 3 have been exceptional, now leading to his much-anticipated Dopamine White debut. Robust and groovy, it's a mesmerizing journey into the depths of progressive house. Tougher than the original, its muscular framework is offset with shimmering arps, effervescent effects and layers of buoyant percussion. Emerging melodies make for a steady rise into the main break, slowly opening up an emotional interlude underpinned with clustered chimes, before smoothly segueing into an exhilarating final movement. Rhythmic and musical in equal measure, it caps off a must have remix edition for KYOTTO's ‘I Am Back' EP.

A duo with a strong connection to the Proton Music archives, LADS return to the label with another stunning EP. This time with the added talents of Stephan Pokorny, "A Million Faces" sees two original tracks combine with remixes from Mass Digital and Cream. Three original EPs dating back to the September 2017 "Miss Jean" debut, May 2018's "Hagel" and "Stoyote" in June 2020, confirmed the German / South African duo as one of underground dance's most exciting talents. Now returning, "A Million Faces" is a delicate melodic gem that sees a haunting male vocal line play a central role as it delicately sings a romantic verse at the mid-point. Either side, a rolling percussive groove builds supremely with subtle energy as a barely heard loop hints at the vocal to come. Organic instrumentation creates another motif that adds to the sonic collage as a swathe of new sounds, pitched effects and vocal reprise create a memorable and sparkling track. The partner track is once again characterised by a distinctive rolling groove comprised of organic percussion sounds. A stuttered, vocal cut propels "Liberia" to the front of the sonic stage as fizzing pads and a beautifully cadenced chord syncopates in smooth hypnotic fashion. Full of musical variation, "Liberia" waxes and wanes easily as the hypnotic backdrop and swathe of new motifs and effected elements create an innovative an original piece.

With a motto that expounds "music speaks louder than words", Mass Digital is a name that has risen to prominence over a 15-year period and some 700 production credits to his name. From Pacha and Tiger Recordings to Hoomidaas and All Day I Dream, the Serbian artist has carved out a sizeable reputation with his distinctive and finely honed production work. Now making his Proton Music debut, the Mass Digital remix of "A Million Faces" is a tour deforce. Retaining the original's percussive groove and melodic character, an array of new production material is introduced that immaculately complements the work of LADS and Stephan Pokorny, not least through beautiful new piano chords and a strings-fuelled backdrop. Building in energy through its phases, the vocal so central to the original, cuts a recurring theme as piano and strings develop in magnificent fashion.

The final remix sees the return of DJ and producer, Cream. A seasoned performer behinds the decks across his homeland, the Polish artist has spent a decade honing his production skills, at first in collaboration with Deep Fog and latterly in solo guise for the likes of Sprout, Juicebox Music and Strange Town Recordings. A regular on Particles since mid-2014, 2021's "Rubikon" on Proton Music was a notable highlight. Remixes for GMJ & Matter, Trilucid and Andrea Cassino are now followed by a typically energised reworking of "A Million Faces". Infused with a driving bassline pattern, new melodies appear courtesy of a gradually emerging arpeggio. Progressing with dancefloor energy, the ethereal vocal from the original makes an appearance at the mid-point before the fusion of vibrant bass groove, heavy beat and new melodic variations blossom into a progressive house gem.

Nikko.Z's Dopamine White opens the spring season by welcoming Nikola Jovanovic to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Serbia, Nikola Jovanovic has emerged from his country's progressive house scene with a sound that showcases driving rhythms and melodic hooks. 2023 proved to be a breakout year for the Belgrade resident, with a creative swell of releases landing on BCSA, Deep Down Music and Future Avenue, and in turn earning support from some of the genre's tastemakers, most notably Nick Warren. Now, continuing what has been a prolific start to the new year, Nikola adds Dopamine White to his resume with ‘Deception', alongside a remix from Influence (IN).

Taking cues from the nostalgic sounds of the genre, Nikola crafts a groovy journey into the darker depths of progressive house with ‘Deception'. With a mysterious and deeply compelling architecture built around around chunky basslines, buzzing sonics and catch synth hooks, it's a series of peaks and valleys which ultimately makes for such a memorable dancefloor experience, one where an emotive break cleverly coaxes delicate melodies and glowing atmospheres for a groove-centric finale. The companion piece ‘Elemental' finds Nikola delivering another quirky progressive excursion that's nicely suited for those uplifting club moments. Squelchy synth lines and ghostly vocal gates combined with a smooth rolling framework and nicely manicured percussion provide a path into an atmospheric break. Here, Nikola builds anticipation through further synth mutations, nicely set against an airy backdrop of radiant textures, before perfectly segueing into a hip-swinging conclusion.

The lone interpretation of ‘Deception' is provided by Influence (IN) who makes his label debut. Based in India, Influence (IN) first emerged in 2021 with his ‘Lost Path' EP. Coming courtesy of Kash Trivedi's Lohit Deep, it was an auspicious debut for the newcomer, one which showcased his affinity for deep organic grooves and cross-cultural themes. Projects for BCSA, Future Avenue, Magic Room and more landed with much praise across the next two years, making the Indian artist yet another rising talent to watch. 2023 proved to be the most impactful year in the evolution of Influence's sound however, recording projects for Droid9, Juicebox Music and John OO Fleming's JOOF Aura. Now, presenting his first remix of 2024, Influence (IN) debuts on Dopamine White with a huge rendition of ‘Deception'. With a creative approach, Influence (IN) remodels the track into a thunderous slice of progressive house. Bound together by a hypno-architecture, it's a blend of muscular beats, shapeshifting effects, panning vocal fragments and hopeful overlays which ultimately carries this cruising journey, one where Influence (IN) unlocks a refined part of his studio repertoire.
