Fans of Liondub International will already be familiar with Latvian rude boy Kenji after he rolled reckless on the tenth plate in our Street Series, so following on the success of his previous drop, Latvia’s most dangerous comes back with five more tracks of grit and gunplay to maintain the throne. He’s quick to draw the weapons out on ‘Bustin at Em’, a frantically-paced, bass-laced rocker where the tension between drums and the wide gunslinger’s step of the bass line rushes frantically forward. Just like the title says, ‘Gunz’ lets more lead fly, this time menacing the floor with growling low end while battering it with jump up beats and quick turns in the breaks. ‘Inaccurate’ ups the ante from rifles to nuclear weapons as it lets fly, the layered drum breaks doing extra damage as repeated bass strikes crater the bins. Setting aside the warlike stance momentarily 'Nevermind' offers a moment of ominous reflection as moody, echoed stabs and washes, distant piano licks, and some careful mixing and arrangement on the percussion form an undeniable groove. Adding up the two stances that came before it, ‘Ya Don’t Test’ mixes vicious bass with denser atmospheres, pulling out a multi-layered assault that gains momentum through the midsection as insistent drums power the charge. Kingston to NYC to London to Latvia, Kenji and Liondub International scatter slugs on pavement and leave no place safe for 2016.
