Over the past 8 years or so we have had, along with Theo Parrish, the honour of playing the monthly residencies at a small basement club in Shoreditch, London with an impeccable sound system. After 20 years of operation, it was time to move on and close the doors on a place that has a lot to answer for in shaping modern club culture. To say this space along with the owner Ade’s singular vision was fundamental in our personal musical formation would be a complete understatement. 
 
On the day of their closing, manager Charlotte asked us if we’d put the system through its paces for the last time that the club would be open to the public. We set about packing the anthems from our respective residencies and on the night once the people were through the doors played 2 records in turn for the rest of the dance. We included tracks of our own and of friends that were made with that place in mind. Records like Daphni - Ye Ye and Four Tet - Pinnacles were made to first be played at Kieran’s nights there, and the Floating Points - Vacuum EP was born out of the CD-R night at the club, and its launch party was the trigger for Sam’s monthly residency.
 
We set this recording up just before the start of the night and unfortunately it distorts in places, but we make no apology for how joyfully noisy people get! The vibe in the room this night was typical of the club on any given night and we hope this recording captures just a fraction of the spirit of a Plastic People night.
 
A massive thank you from us to everyone that has come down to the nights over the years and supported our music there. We are truly humbled to have shared the music we love with people at this place, and your energy in turn has influenced the way we make music on an unfathomable scale. We also thank the bosses Charlotte Kepel and Ade Fakile for inviting us to the club and having faith in us over  these years! All the best for the future!

Solid Steel (13th February) DJ Food - Selected Aphex Works

Unless you've been living under a rock recently you'll have heard the news that Aphex Twin unexpectedly uploaded 155 of his old and unreleased tracks to Soundcloud and made them downloadable for free. Starting from his earliest demos through to known live tracks, later jungle experiments and beyond, this is the motherlode that his fans have always wanted. DJ Food, a long-time Aphex fan, has been through the entire collection with a fine-toothed comb and selected his favourites for the first half of the show this week. The hit rate was high but he's has managed to cram 31 tracks into 85 minutes to mark this unique occasion and peppered the mix with vintage interview clips of Richard James talking about his music.

I listened to it on my way up to Red Bull Studios and fell in love with it and had to include it on this show. I figured since we did a Dilla Tribute that it was only right that we do a Nujabes tribute as well right? Much respect to these legends. We hope you enjoy.

The rising star of London pirate radio teams up with Finn and Fallow for his first single on Local Action.

London's radio circuit is the healthiest it's been for new MCs in some time, with the likes of Mic Ty, Mez, AJ Tracey, Big Zuu and The Square causing regular damage on Radar Radio, NTS, Mode FM, 1Xtra and more. At the forefront of these MCs is Jammz. The East Londoner has been lighting up sets from grime mainstays (Slimzee, Spooky, Spyro) and exciting newcomers (such as Moleskin) alike over the last year, and if you follow UK radio then it's impossible to miss him at the moment.

Jammz' Hit Then Run EP solidified his radio presence into a record, and was praised by SBTV, FACT, Complex, RWD, Passion of the Weiss and more. Its title track, produced by Jammz, is already an anthem with regular BBC Radio play, and its remix (featuring Mez and Mic Ty) has topped the remix chart on Sian Anderson's 1xtra show six weeks on the spin. The Spooky-produced '128 Bars', however, might be the EP's best track, showcasing Jammz' lyrics and flow over four minutes of solid bars, no hook.

With Jammz' live reputation also rising (he recently performed at the MOBO Awards' Unsung Tour), 'Final Warning' is his new anthem-in-the-making, a ode to the thirsty side of love over a re-tooled version of Fallow's 'Keep Ballin' flip of Finn's 'Keep Calling'. We'll be celebrating Final Warning with a series of radio launches on week of release, featuring Finn, Fallow and other special guests.

This is the first time I am releasing an album as a physical product at the same time as a digital version. I have double disc CDs and full length vinyl records available with amazing hard cover book packaging that looks stunning and contains a 28 page photo booklet documenting much of the making of the album. The second disc of the double CD set contains 13 additional tracks straight off the vinyl acetates that I composed and created in order to make legit sounding samples for A Color Map of The Sun.

Like always, the album will be available in its entirety as a free download on the album's release date via prettylightsmusic.com. For the first time however, I encourage you to purchase a copy of the album. There are two honest reasons for this. The main reason is that as an artist I have always reinvested any success I have directly back into the music, the show and the art that goes along with it. Secondly, this isn't just an album; it is a massive collection of music beyond what is on the CDs that I will continue to put out after the album release. There is an insightful documentary film on the making of this project to be released alongside the launch of the album, as well as a music video for every song. They are all beautiful and uniquely unusual pieces of art.

This "album" is a multi-medium map of my mind and my self. It is personal and honest and I put everything into it. I have stayed on the path of being a completely independent musician and with the help of every supporter and friend, we have transformed a simple idea into a movement, a cultural beacon of light. If you can, I encourage you to purchase a digital or physical copy of A Color Map of the Sun. If not simply support by sharing the music and sharing the idea. If there is any success to be had from this album, it will go back into my rule bending, never ending quest to channel beauty and taste through music and art.
