I think the first time I ever heard this song was before I even began playing cello- I watched a video of Yo Yo Ma playing it. The melody is super iconic and I really enjoy french composers such as Saint-Saëns. I think this is a good healing song to listen to when you are feeling down, because it puts you at ease. The notes are simple, but somehow no matter how many times I play this piece, I feel like I can never quite transfer the emotion behind this piece into my cello playing- I feel like I need the perfect amount of control and tone quality (and intonation of course). I will keep working hard to improve and give you a better performance :) -Emily 

I’ve never played the cello, but the Swan is a classic. This song is beautiful and heartfelt-- it was my favorite from the Carnival of Animals as a kid. Even so, it's taken me this long to finally play the piano accompaniment for this song. I found it to be harder than it looks to get the right feel when playing this seemingly simple pattern of sixteenth notes, even harder when you’re not able to communicate with the cellist in real time. Still, it was fun to play. -Sophie

This is for all Sara-on-stage fans, and also for the Vancouver fans. Taken from The Brave Enough Tour at Rio Theatre, Vancouver, 9th May 2013. I love the Vancouver crowd... they could sing a little, definitely not very good at whistling nor clapping... but they were a wonderfully gentle and respectful crowd. And they were really really there to listen to Sara. (if you like this, go buy the official live DVD due for release. invest in good music, good recordings).

This live version really got me to realize how beautiful it was. I don't think I moved an inch when I heard it there.  Other than a bit of distortion at the end, it came from the stage several times throughout, the sound is really quite good. :)
