"I spend the day yesterday listening to the horn track from our Wednesday concert and I was struck by Spagliato (Ital.: wrong, error, mistaken..). I couldn't stop listening to it and ended up making a remix, an attempt to extend his notes, sustaining them. I named it:: Spagliato, for Matt Marks (gated solo horn with artificial reverberation DNremix). No pressure to listen though, if it seems too early or wrong. Just wanted to share, in case someone finds it helpful as an anchor for their grief, which it provided for me."

Louisville Orchestra principal cellist Nicholas Finch is premiering three concertos, specifically written for him, on April 18th at the Ogle Center at IUS, with his colleagues from NouLou Chamber Players and conducted by Jason Seber. Finch and composers, Ljova, Dorian Wallace, and Alyssa Weinberg talked with Daniel Gilliam about the inspiration for their new pieces, and Louisville's welcoming spirit for new music.

Dorian Wallace, MT-BC, is a composer, pianist, board-certified music therapist, and teacher based in New York City. His work addresses socio-political issues and philosophical concepts, often incorporating improvisation. He has collaborated with artists such as Bonita Oliver, John Sanborn, Paul Pinto, Pamela Z, Charlotte Mundy, Frank London, and Nicholas Finch, to name a few.

Wallace is a founding co-artistic director of Tenth Intervention, a progressive new music collective that uses contemporary music to explore the intersection of social justice and community engagement. He spearheaded the New Music Organizing Caucus, a labor advocacy collective tackling systemic disparities in contemporary classical music. Wallace is the host of Dorian's Mode, a podcast that fosters conversations around music, art, politics, psychology, and philosophy, among other topics. He has performed for political figures including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jarvis Tyner, Angela Davis, Gerald Horne, and Blade Nzimande.

One of New York City's most in-demand dance accompanists, Wallace has played for Martha Graham Dance Company, Doug Varone and Dancers, Juilliard, New York University, Columbia University, and many others. He also teaches Music for Dancers at the Martha Graham School and teaches the Mark Morris Dance Accompaniment Training Program.

Wallace earned a BA in Music Therapy from Montclair State University, where he studied under Drs. Brian Abrams and Michael Viega. He interned at the Mount Sinai Beth Israel Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine and the MJHS Hospice and Palliative Care. Atlantis Institute for Consciousness and Music provided Dorian with Level 1 training in Guided Imagery and Music. He leads music therapy and mindfulness meditation groups through American Humanist Association and About Face and his private practice, Mederi Music.

He currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
