“What am I to build, if my hands are broken, if I’m not the chosen one?” sings Steven McKellar of Civil Twilight on “Story of An Immigrant”, over a lush, dynamic beat that evokes the sounds of his native South Africa while steeped in the band’s everevolving present. The foursome (Steven, his brother and guitarist Andrew, drummer Richard Wouters and Kevin Dailey on keys and guitar) are living proof of what happens when you stop worrying about being the chosen one and make music built on both the roots that grew you and the love that keeps you thriving every day. Civil Twilight’s songs embrace every corner of human emotion, balancing delicate, poetic lyrics with sweeping arrangements that touch all the senses: a phrase to make you think; a rolling drumbeat you can feel in your bones; a guitar vamp as illustrative as a picture; a shimmer of keys whose light can nearly be seen and heard. Produced by Ben H. Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Bombay Bicycle Club, Cut Copy), their third record on Wind-Up is built on this vibrancy, on the permanent dust of a Cape Town youth; on the connection that unites them all as brothers beyond blood and on their new home in America where they pull from the innate, thriving musicianship of Nashville, where they live. 2010.

Quatre amis d'enfance vertaviens accompagnent quelques bouteilles de bières au coin d'une table peu éclairée. Une guitare grattée, un stylo qui griffonne, un table tapotée et un air que le dernier fredonne :  la compo "On me dit" vient de naitre et avec elle l'extraordinaire aventure Label Blonde.

 

L'équipe s'équipe, basse sanglée, batterie montée, guitare accordée et glotte échauffée!
Les compositions s'enchainent au rythme des mélodies accrocheuses. Les textes, toujours en français, expriment le quotidien, les soirées endiablés, mais aussi les amours manqués, les indignations et les passions.

2 années, une quinzaine de compos, 5864 litres de bières descendus et plus de 30 concerts sur la scène nantaise (Scène Michelet, Festival Les enchantés en 1ère partie de Philippe Katerine et Fonky Nyko, Route du Rhum, Kiosque du Loiry, Passage sur JNT radio et café concerts en tous genres...) s’écoulent lorsque Label Blonde se voit dans l’obligation de se séparer d’un commun accord avec le batteur du groupe. Santé!

Début 2013 marque un tournant important pour Label Blonde, 2 nouveaux Labelisés viennent garnir les rangs de la formation Blonde :

Un guitariste électrique et un percussionniste avec pour ligne de mire un passage en studio (Sibem'hall) pour enregistrer le premier EP du groupe « L’embuscade ».

Sorti le 31 mai 2013 lors d'un concert exceptionnel à La Scène Michelet à Nantes, L'embuscade est actuellement distribué dans divers "Espace Culturel Leclerc" de la région Nantaise et à la fin des shows du groupe.

Depuis les concerts s'enchainent (Fêtes de la musique, Culture bar-bar,...) et l'année 2014 s'annonce des plus radieuses pour le groupe qui vient de participer au Festival Cru d'la Mée en compagnie d'Epsylon et qui continuera à arpenter les scènes pour diffuser la bonne humeur de son rock houblonneux.
