Kicking off 2024, I’ve got a great Customer Spotlight guest mix from West Coast vinyl veteran, John Kimble / Thicc Glasses. 

Originally from LA, John grew up in the underground warehouse party scene in Seattle in the early 90's. A drummer and an avid fan of all things musical, with early influences by the rhythm sections of classic rock, hip hop, ska, industrial, avant garde, and the west coast dance music sounds of Jeno, Garth and the Wicked crew. Drawing inspiration from the early Uk tech house pioneers and a member of LA's The Coastal Commission and ex-vinyl-peddler from Beat Non Stop, John Kimble started playing and collecting records in 1994 and remains faithful to the craft of long seamless mixes to create a unique sound and a hypnotic listening experience.  

John's put together a flawless blend of minimal tunes... all vinyl, of course!

Not many have covered the ground like London's Richard Sen has. Starting his deep dive into the underground scene by being the much recognised Sen graffiti writer he has moved on over the years to be considered one of the UK's great selectors and DJ's. Having also released music under several guises, not only under his own name (which he also has wealth of huge remixes for artists like Bryan Ferry, John Grant, Unloved and LCD Soundsystem), but most notably under the phenomenal Padded Cell and the excellent Bronx Dogs. With his excellent weekly radio show on Charlie Bones' Do!! You!!! Radio station as well as dropping the award winning Dream The Dream (UK Techno, Breakbeat And House 1990-1994) compilation on Ransom Note, Sen finds himself with an even larger wealth of fans. With that being said we are delighted to welcome Richard Sen to the Off The Record mix series where he provides us with a 3+ hour journey taking us on a deep dive into his record selection providing styles of all kinda throughout. For the first time in our 25-year history, we are releasing a live solo recording by Craig Richards from the club. 

“This mix was recorded on the second of December at a Continuum party. I commenced just after five and finished at nine. The heady combination of nostalgia coupled with the past, the future and more importantly my daughter dancing next to me, resulted in a mix that I felt happy with. Historically, I have been very self-critical and have chosen not to release many mixes. Across nearly four hours this one seems to encapsulate the twenty five years of playing at fabric. In 1998 I was invited by Keith Reilly to play weekly at what was an imaginary nightclub. I had no idea that experience would continue for so many years. Playing vinyl on that sound system and mixer is highly exciting and a joy in itself. I am delighted that this has been my method of sonic communication and remain deeply grateful for my ongoing residency.” - Craig Richards

This mix goes out to Finlay Boyd and Phil Poyner for starting this journey into hip hop with me (I still have those dubbed Beastie Boys tapes!)

1. I cannot find any expression online, by any artist in this mix that implies their support for the genocide of Palestinians
2. The Brian Eno/David Byrne track includes a sample from a song by Samira Tewfik, called Hobak Mor. The lyrics from the sample are:

3. Wildfires by Sault is about police brutality and the consistent murder of people of colour by police in the USA. I feel the sentiment also applies to the Israeli occupation of Palestine, and the continued violence/murder inflicted on the Palestinan people. Lyrics like, ‘We all know it was murder, murder, murder’; and ‘I will always rise’ to reflect the fierceness of the Palestinian people and deep connection to their land
4. Rebuild a Nation by Damon Locks, Black Monument Ensemble, for me is a call out to people power. The current system is not working! Governments all around the world are out of touch! 
Dismantle imperialist, white supremacist, capitalist and patriarchal systems!
