After 2 years, the SUB:MERGED mix series is back with a bang 💥 This time round we’ve invited none other than RK Bass Records head honcho, the mighty Jungalice to showcase her sound. We’ve been sitting on this one a while, ready to lift your spirits in this change of seasons.

Some words from the queen herself:

“So I actually recorded this mix back in February (Sloejoe living up to his name…) and I thought it would really suit SUB:MERGED because it’s a bit more of an exploration into the newer but more heavily breakbeat focussed sound of hardcore & jungle. Building from 150bpm gave me some scope to be a bit more adventurous and feature a few more acidic over tones that have been emerging in the scene over the last few years while also rinsing out some proper heavy amens and big basslines.

Chincy was made on a kitchen table using an Akai MPC3000, Moog Sub37 and a Korg Minilogue for hardware; plugged into a Midas Venice mixer, Crane Song STC-1, Thermionic Culture Rooster and Focusrite pre-amps for recording. Vocals by Chicago. Subs by car system tests. 808 by 808. Fingers by Landstrumm.

The tracks are live jams but they aren’t that cheap to make. No hunching over a computer for weeks on end. One take, one mistake. Just jamming on gear after listening to Mantronix , Dre’s The Chronic and many many UK hardcore records. Pizza Pie on speed dial and Mr X for nighttime sessions for added UK swagger. Recorded in a forest with a swampy back garden. 145 is the common thread of ‘Chincy’ and ‘Eighty Four’ with a 160 diversion for equal measure on ‘Cutlass’.

Double O (formerly known as 007) is easily one of the most respected heads in Jungle DNB. And has been for over 25 years

Growing up inspired by Black music - especially his older brother’s Reggae sound system - his career propelled forward in the early 90s when he started playing Doncaster Warehouse alongside Carl Cox, DJ Ratty & Grooverider. In 94 he released one of his most famous productions, the Undercover Agent EP on Formation Records, and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Today, Double O’s most known as co-founder of club night and label Rupture, which he’s been running since 2006 with partner in crime DJ Mantra. World-renowned as the mecca for spiritual breaks and hard hitting bass lines, they’re also headstrong about creating a safe space for ALL ravers to express themselves. It's no wonder Rupture is often dubbed the best platform for Jungle DNB in the world (including by Resident Advisor, Rinse FM, DJ Mag and Mixmag, where they feature regularly)!

Music has enabled Double O to travel the globe, playing to and meeting like minded people who share a deep love for that underground sound. Known but not limited to being a JungleDNB DJ, he also produces and selects a banging selection of Acid and Detroit Techno and Roots Reggae. Double O is one of the most driven yet humble OGs you’ll ever meet - making him an ideal role model to inspire the future generation of muscians. If you know, you know!
