Balancing relevancy with absurdity, Wahoo Skiffle Crazies offer post-modern, time-traveling, Gonzo-Folk traditional jug band tunes, ragtime, protest songs, blues and Steampunk originals, influenced by the 60s folk revival and Depression Era Americana (both).

Midway through a set last summer at MUSIKFEST in Bethlehem, Penn., it started to pour. All plugs were pulled, speakers were covered, and all stages stopped activity – except the one on Main Street with the Wahoo Skiffle Crazies. They just played on, loud as they could, and invited the growing, poncho-wearing crowd to come closer and sing along.

The summer of 2008 was a seminal year for the Staten Island music/art scene. Debates about its significance raged throughout major New York City-based blogs and newspapers. The newly established ROCK THE HARBOR all-day music festival premiered on the Island in June. The festival drew more than a thousand and featured more than 30 local bands, including the Wahoos (who were followed by the world-famous headliners: The Budos Band).

Born in the middle of the last Bush Administration, the band cut its teeth on protest folk and busking around town with an arsenal of rags, rhymes, and blues. Last year, the band’s single, “Which Side Are You On,” (a reworking of the old Labor song into a political anthem) was featured on an album titled, “Jugs Across America!: A Modern Jug Band Compilation,” produced by Whiskey for Breakfast Records with creative and selective input from Jim Kweskin.

In 2007, the band was honored to play THE CUTTING EDGE OF THE CAMPFIRE FESTIVAL at the celebrated CLUB PASSIM in Cambridge, Mass., which gave the Wahoos a great sense of folk legitimacy.

In 2006, the Crazies played PNC ARTS CENTER, Holmdel, N.J., and the TWEETER CENTER, Camden, N.J., for OPIE & ANTHONY’S TRAVELING VIRUS TOUR, after being broadcast coast-to-coast on the comic duo’s radio show.

Wahoo Skiffle Crazies have played many venues in New York City, including: THE BITTER END, CBGB’S 313 GALLERY, OTTO’S SHRUNKEN HEAD, 169 BAR, WICKED WILLY’S, and MAGNET THEATER (with Barrelhouse Improv Comedy), and THE MERCURY LOUNGE in Manhattan.

In Brooklyn, the Wahoos have been no strangers to the nearby scenes in Williamsburg and Park Slope, playing GALAPAGOS ART SPACE (opened for The Decemberists), SOUTHPAW (opened for Outernational), THE LUCKY CAT, LONE STAR BAR, BROOKLYN LYCEUM, KINGS COUNTY OPRY, and HANK’S SALOON. Last summer, the band was honored to play the MERMAID PARADE on Coney Island.

On Staten Island, the band plays regularly at MARTINI RED (singer/songwriter Ingrid Michaelson once opened for the jug band), EVERY THING GOES BOOK CAFE, THE CUP, LEIDY’S SHORE INN, CARGO CAFE, and Historic Richmond Town’s prestigious TAVERN CONCERT SERIES.

Hopping over the Arthur Kill, Wahoo Skiffle Crazies have often played in New Jersey, including: REDBANK UNPLUGGED FESTIVAL (with Staten Islander Kevin Devine); PIRATES DAY FESTIVAL, Barnegat; ATLANTIC CITY ARTS CENTER; and THE CROSSROADS in Garwood.

Wahoo Skiffle Crazies released a DYI, self-titled album in 2006 and released a live album, “LIVE in Brooklyn,” in January 2009. They are currently recording a studio EP titled, “Songs For The Next Great Depression,” due out in Summer 2009.

Recently Wahoo Skiffle Crazies were asked to play a Benefit for Haiti at THE BELL HOUSE in Brooklyn, where they shared the stage with National acts such as Ted Leo, The Wrens, Sondre Lerche, The Walkmen, Rhett Miller and many more.

Whilst Tate Strauss takes his music seriously, he takes his love of house music to another level. With this comes a profound respect for the dance floor and its inhabitants, whom he regards as his people, taking them on a sonic voyage hit record after hit record.  Having commenced his first residency back in 1998, this love has become his passion further solidifying his stature in the Australian dance music scene with many regular gigs at nightclubs, events and festivals nationwide.

Behind the decks Tate Strauss is a master on the decks, his weapon of choice. Delivering moments of “Hands in the Air Full Throttle Big Room House” goodness, his ability to appease the perfectionist purveyors whilst scintillating the masses in one fell swoop, is guaranteed to get any and every dance floor pumping. This musically and methodically oriented approach is to set structure and programming, combined with his deft skills and his huge arsenal of personal bootlegs and remixes pushes the crowd to the limit and sets him aside from the rank and file of mediocrity.

With his origins in the underground music scene, way before dance became the phenomenon it is now, Tate’s knowledge of obscure releases from way back just adds another element to his vast music knowledge and experience behind the decks. Added to this experience are stints at Richmond Recording studios, Get Down and Thump Records, working for Chevron nightclub as in-house sound and lighting tech, running the largest underage parties at Metro nightclub along with being one of the driving forces behind the underground dance party and rave scene. This led to 5 night a week DJ gigs where his craft was further honed and perfected. 

He has recently DJ’ed with other like-minded music aficionados, names such as Sidney Samson, Ian Carey, Static Revenger, Tommy Trash, Hook N Sling, Danzel Park, Sgt Slick, John Course, Tonite Only, Stafford Brothers, Mind Electric, Bass Kleph, Vandalism and TV Rock to namedrop but a few. 2010/2011 saw Tate pack out clubs in Shanghai and Hong Kong for corporate clients such as Bulgari.

His production skills have enabled a cohesive collaboration with Mobin Master (who himself has had amazing international chart and touring success), enabling the public to tap into the trendsetting and original Safari Music sound (original "Floor Fillers" and "Pumping Hands in the Air Remixes"). In addition to doing production for Safari, Tate uses his business skills in handling all the PR and management of the artists on the Safari Music roster.

Tate’s monthly “Made in Melbourne” iTunes podcast has over 3000 subscribers, to go with a progressive amount of social media reach and engagement amongst his fans with over 13,000 Facebook fans, over 150k listens on Soundcloud.

Son of the Sun formed in early 2007 with two members living on opposite sides of the country. Joseph Stocker (guitar, keyboards) lived in New York and Zak Ward (lead vocals, guitar) lived in California. Once band mates and friends, the two experimented with their reflective, lush, "wall of sound" musical tastes over the internet, swapping files which eventually brought about their first E.P. in 2008 Before the After. After Zak moved back to New York the duo went on to add Jeremy Franklin (guitar), Steve Matthews (bass), and Brandon Delmont (drums).

Before the After was received with open arms on the upstate New York music scene bringing in positive reviews. Among them was The Buffalo News who selected SOTS as a "band to watch" in 2009. Playing local shows and touring regionally developed the bands sound into what is described as encompassing elements of groups such as Band of Horses, The Kinks, Gram Parsons, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

In June of 2010 Son of the Sun released their first full-length album The Happy Loss. With the help of co-producer Mike Brown, the album was recorded in part at Temperamental Recordings in Geneseo, NY and mixed by Alan Weatherhead (Sparklehorse, Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker) at Sound of Music Recording Studios in Richmond, VA. Throughout 2010 Son of the Sun continued to tour from the midwest to the east coast and support national headlining acts in the Upstate NY area. With every show sold out at the local level, the band has been able to expand their fan base regionally.

Staying true to their roots in what is described as "melodically detailed rock," Son of the Sun continues to pile on euphonic layers of textured harmonies with an added garage psychedelia that defines their sound so well. Their new EP "Almost Not There" being released in June of 2011 follows their song writing rule of "keep it simple," and 3-chord rock-n-roll. But with instrument choices and mixing classic and modern recording techniques giving the chance to bridge the gap between the two time periods, making it have a familiar "classic" vibe while staying new and refreshing.

"We all draw from the same pool of influence for the most part" says Joey from SOTS. "For me personally I could listen to Roy Orbison's In Dreams as much as Gimme Danger by the Stooges, followed by a Hank Williams song, and get equally turned on by all of those. So watching the movie "Alphaville" is just as motivating as listening to a Velvet Underground record. So in some way all of those things manage to sneak into the songs whether through a songwriting style or a certain choice of instruments, effects, etc." 

Son of the Sun plans to tour the east coast and midwest in support of "Almost Not There." They are also highlighting their Summer of 2011 with direct support for national headliners such as Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, The Tea Party, Blue Oyster Cult and Our Lady Peace.

Eighth Blackbird is “one of the smartest, most dynamic contemporary classical ensembles on the planet” (Chicago Tribune). Launched in 1996 as a twinkle in the eyes of six entrepreneurial Oberlin Conservatory undergraduates, this Chicago-based super-group has earned its status as “a brand-name…defined by adventure, vibrancy and quality….known for performing from memory, employing choreography and collaborations with theater artists, lighting designers and even puppetry artists” (Detroit Free Press).


Eighth Blackbird kicked off its 20th anniversary in 2016, quickly garnering a fourth GRAMMY Award as well as the prestigious MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions, Chamber Music America’s inaugural Visionary Award, and Musical America’s Ensemble of the Year (2017). Anniversary celebrations continue throughout the 2016-17 season, culminating in the June 2017 launch of The Blackbird Creative Lab, an annual tuition-free two-week intensive for emerging artists at the Besant Hill School in Ojai, California.


Eighth Blackbird first gained wide recognition as the winner of the 1998 Concert Artists Guild Competition, and has since commissioned and premiered hundreds of works by dozens of composers including David T. Little, Steven Mackey, Missy Mazzoli, and Steve Reich, whose commissioned work, Double Sextet, went on to win the Pulitzer Prize (2009). A long-term relationship with Chicago’s Cedille Records has produced seven acclaimed recordings (most recently, Hand Eye) and four impressive GRAMMY Awards for Best Small Ensemble/Chamber Music Performance: for strange imaginary animals (2008), Lonely Motel: Music from Slide (2011), Meanwhile (2012), and Filament (2015).


Eighth Blackbird’s members (Nathalie Joachim, flutes; Michael J. Maccaferri, clarinets; Yvonne Lam, violin & viola; Nicholas Photinos, cello; Matthew Duvall, percussion; Lisa Kaplan, piano) hail from the Great Lakes, Keystone, Golden, Empire and Bay states. The name “Eighth Blackbird” derives from the eighth stanza of Wallace Stevens’s evocative, aphoristic poem, Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird (1917). Eighth Blackbird is managed by David Lieberman Artists' Representatives.

A Metal/Hardcore band consisting of Ben Finnegan (Bass/Vocals) , Joey Stones (Rhythm Guitar) , Stephan Bolton (Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals), Jamie Phillips (Lead Vocals), Lewis Godwin-cox (Lead Vocals), and Glenn Richmond (Drums/Unclean Vocals). 

We experiment and range from the following genres: Deathcore, Post-Hardcore, Metalcore, Death Metal, , Screamo, Hardcore Punk. 

------25 August - 30 September 2012-------

From Screams to Silence are an 8 piece band from Gloucester originally called "Midnight in the Suburbs" which was started by Jack Green (drums), Shannon Creighton (lead vocals), Ben Finnegan (bass/backing vocals), Sam "Charners" Charnley (lead guitarist), followed by Harper Redman(keyboards/synthesizers). Who later hired Matt Force (co-lead guitarist) due to Sam living too far away and Valters Maurītis (rhythm guitarist).

One their first practice on the 1st of September they bought along friends Mikey Collerick and Dan Myatt, whilst working together Mikey saw there was a problem working together so after working on some vocals, Mikey was later made their screamer for their band, at the time they decided to dismiss Sam and make him a temporary 'session member' because he lived too far away, till he quit being a session for his other band 'BreastFedOnMeth'. Later on the band changed the name to 'Under Heavy Judgement' The band had also hired Nick a few days later (3rd September) due to Jack thinking Matt was being dismissed but Ben didn't want to dismiss Matt so they made Nick a 'co-rhythm guitarist'. Harper was made a session member later because he felt he wasn't good enough for the band and the genre was too heavy. Later on Harper rejoined the band permanently after numerously quitting a few times. The band had later changed there name again to 'Twisted Nightmare'.

On the 9th of September Matt was forced quit the band due to personal issues one being Ben's issues with Matt's brother so their parents removed him thinking Matt was only in to get payback from his brother although Ben heavily denies this, Matt had also left due to musical differences, after casual attempts to replace him the band decided to scrap the 'Lead and Rhythm' Idea and just make Nick and Valters guitarists.

On 10th of September Shannon decided she had to leave the band due to personal issues, she tried to rejoin after but was turned away due to some members thinking they didn't need a clean vocalist. The band later hired Joey Stones on the 30th September, to be a guitarist.


------6 October - 12th November------

On the 6th October, Mikey quit Twisted Nightmare saying "Yo guys I'm sorry to announce this but I have decided to leave Twisted Nightmare due to musical differences. I really felt like I was holding you guys back from doing the stuff you really wanted to do. I hope you do well in the future and I'm sorry to be leaving at a time where we've just started to get things going.' The band hired Steve Bowns to be their new vocalist replacing Mikey. The band wanted to get into the 3 guitarist regime so since one of the guitarists is leaving the band decided to hire Jay Bracewell to take over to save effort in finding one later.

Nick Grey was dismissed from the band on the 14th October, the band had announced it on their Facebook on the 18th, Nicks departure was due to the reason was that Nick had musical differences and wanted to be in an alternative rock band. On the 20th October Valters was transferred from 'Twisted Nightmare' to Ben's side project band 'The Last Remnant' due to the fact he couldn't find any other guitarists, despite this the band found someone to replace Valters and are currently waiting on an answer.

On the 22nd October Steve and Jay left the band together, Steve messaged Ben saying 'Hate to say this man but Jay and I are out the band man. We can't really see it going anywhere and we wanna do our own project. Sorry dude'. Ben and Joey searched for replacements, since Ben had already asked friend James Dymond to replace Valters, James said he'd join depending on how practice goes. Ben also asked Haydn Alim to join who also said he'd wait to see how practice goes. Haydn later recommended Mac (St Killed A Parade/Former Cry Cassius Cry) to join as a guitarist, Mac agreed to this. The band had also hired James Force as a Percussionist on the 22nd October but later dismissed him due to personal issues.
On the 3rd of November, James had to drop out (unsure whether its temporary) due to revision for GSCES, Ben asked what about Mac, James said "he is almost as busy as me but he would probably come along, he don't really revise much". So its unsure whether he will. Ben unsure about Haydn hired Jay Bracewell (former lead guitarist) to be lead vocalist as Jay wanted to try out vocals, Ben later hired Stephan to replace James Dymond. Mehdi Ali (a close friend) decided to fill in for Mac and if he enjoyed the band he'd join permanently, but Mehdi decided to drop out saying "I don't think I'm right for this band". Haydn told Ben on the 3rd that he would stay. On the 4th November Jack hired 'Brandon Hanchett (cousin of Matt Hanchett, a guy they tried to hired before) as a lead guitarist (moving Joey to rhythm taking over Macs former position).
Jay left the band on the 8th so he could focus on being a guitarist. Haydn was dismissed due to lack of commitment. The band hired Jamie Phillips and Lewis Godwin-Cox to replace them. Harper left the band on the 13th November because he felt he couldn't really do anything at practices, Ben said "Well Its good because he couldn't make any good tracks to go with our songs/covers as he cannot read music nor did he have the capability to ask the other members what they were playing, he messed around, played when we were trying to talk, and kept asking Stephan to go on his guitar when Stephan was practising something".



---New start, Jacks departure---

On the 12th the band made a poll to see which new name would suit best 'From Screams to Silence' won. Brandon left the band on the 17th due to finding an apprenticeship for a job. 

The band decided to dismiss Jack Green for a load of reasons. The band felt they were evolved and wanted a new person to lighten the future of the band. They also felt Jack wasn't committed (though later proved wrong), and therefore dismissed him. They took a while dicussing the decision and Ben decided to tell Jack saying 

'Hey Jack, man I have some bad news. Over time we've made shit with the band and we've gained a lot of new friends and members out of it. But it's reached a point to which the band has evolved and has formed a new band all together. I think its times for the band to split with you, we all love your drumming, your jokes, effort to help the band but man, its a new band. We've all talked and its time this new band continues with Me, Joey, Stephan, Jamie, Lewis, and Glenn. So we have to leave you, Harper, and Kieran behind. I really want to continue our friendship and its been so fucking hard trying to break with you without hurting you. The band bought to me that if we are to get anywhere we need to have a line up change. I'm sorry man. It was fun while it lasted. And I know it'll take time to forgive me for this but...you're out bro :/ You have every right to hate me and the others but I hope we can settle this and my band do gigs with your other bands :/ If you start any new bands we'd be happy to help, with whatever it is." Jack to time to accept this and later came to terms with the decision, Jack later remained friends with the band then joined new band "From Ruins". 

Glenn Richmond, who had filled in for Jack, was made a permanent member. The band a month later announced they were going on tour and that Harper Redman would be doing Synth, Keyboards, and Piano for a few songs.

Corey Harris was born in Denver, Colorado to parents from Texas and Kentucky. He is a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and band leader who has carved out his own niche in blues. A powerful singer and accomplished guitarist, he has appeared at venues throughout the North America, Europe, Brazil, The Caribbean, West Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He began his career as a New Orleans street singer, travelling throughout the southern U.S. In his early twenties he lived in Cameroon, West Africa for a year, which had a profound effect on his later work. He has recorded many old songs of the blues tradition while also creating an original vision of the blues by adding influences from reggae, soul, rock and West African music. His 1995 recording, Between Midnight and Day, is a tribute to the tradition of acoustic blues. Subsequent recordings, such as Greens From the Garden (1999), Mississippi to Mali (2003), and Daily Bread (2005) show Harris' maturation from interpreter to songwriter. Some of his imaginative compositions are marked by a deliberate eclecticism; other works stay true to the traditional blues formula of compelling vocals and down-home guitar. With one foot in tradition and the other in contemporary experimentation, Harris is a truly unique voice in contemporary music. He has performed, recorded, and toured with many of the top names in music such as BB King, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Henry Butler, R.L.Burnside, John Jackson, Ali Farka Toure, Dave Mattews Band, Tracy Chapman, Olu Dara, Wilco, Natalie Merchant, and others. His additional recordings include Fish Ain't Bitin' (1996), Vu-Du Menz (with Henry Butler, 2000), Downhome Sophisticate (2002), and Zion Crossroads (2007).blu black ( 2010 ). 

In 2003 Harris was a featured artist and narrator of the Martin Scorcese film, "Feel Like Going Home," which traced the evolution of blues from West Africa to the southern U.S. In 2007, he was awarded a $500,000 MacArthur Fellowship – commonly referred to as a “genius award” – from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The annual grant, which recognizes individuals from a wide range of disciplines who show creativity, originality and commitment to continued innovative work, described Harris as an artist who “forges an adventurous path marked by deliberate eclecticism.” That same year, he was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Bates College, in Lewiston, Maine.
