The release of Stuttgart techno boss David Löhlein’s HOTEL POOL EP earlier this year brought his young, Latin-inflected sound to Berlin-based BNR, and now with HOTEL POOL REMIXES, Löhlein’s tracks are traveling the world.

The first stop is Spain, where DJ SWISHERMAN (along with BOYS NOIZE himself) expand “HOTEL POOL’s” arrangement with a Carnaval of samples, accents and build-ups. A short hop north sees the UK’s Chloé Robinson and DJ ADHD compressing “CUANDO VENGAS” into a pressure chamber of tooth-rattling bass, as staccato percussion skitters off of the steel walls.  France’s u.r.trax brings out the alien in “LA PISCINA” over a Baltimore-club kick pattern, while retaining its galloping, double-timed arpeggiated bass. With “TIPSY DANCING (Hotel Pool Cut),” Löhlein returns home to join buzzing locals MARA & VELA, who jump on the mic for a pop-forward rework that reflects the vibrant crossover sound ascendant in Germany.  Ending with the original mix of the title track, HOTEL POOL REMIXES completes its journey as energetically as it began - you don’t feel jet lagged if you never sleep.

The tracks are born from the concept of being sonically coerced into movement, distilled down to the essential elements of rhythm; bass, vocals and drums. Having studied the phenomenon of rhythm based primarily on the writings of Tiger C. Roholt, Chungo explores the idea of groove as the puppeteer and the listener the puppet (Pupazzo in Italian). Right from the start, the bold confident and chunky beat of "Jaz Hans" made us feel this was no joking matter! This dubby tech house track is a well-produced piece of music. The nicely placed vocal snippets keep the groove going as we move towards darker jazzy, almost confusing atmospheres with rhodes & vibraphones and suddenly we are greeted by somewhat unexpected yet very welcome tribal chanting voices - wow! Jaz Hans has just the right amount of ingredients, combined with a subtle narration.

Risky biscuit takes the energy level slightly up a notch with a more "straight forward" construction. We absolutely loved how the contrast set us straight when the solid beat kicks back in after the lovely enchanting cello foray. In these challenging times, we really can't wait to see the damage these two will be doing on the floor!
