THE COURT OF EQUITY ARE A DEVELOPING GROUP WITHIN ONE OF SCOTLAND’S LEADING FOLK ROCK BANDS, THE PICTS. THEY ARE A LAID BACK ACOUSTIC VERSION OF THE PICTS WHO FOCUS MAINLY ON THE WORKS OF ROBERT BURNS AND OTHER WELL KNOWN TRADITIONAL AND ORIGINAL SONGS.

Drawing on more than twenty years of experience in the Scottish music industry The Court of Equity set is made up of tales, poems, instrumentals and songs. The music is passionately performed with original arrangements and compositions.

The band perform many of of Burns’s best loved songs as well as pieces less well known: The Deils Awa’ Wi’ the Exciseman, Tibbie Fowler, Rattlin’ Roarin’ Willie, My Luve is like a Red, Red Rose, Will ye go to the Indies my Mary, My Bonnie Mary, McPherson’s Farewell, etc…

The Court of equity’s two new albums “Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect Vol. 1 & Vol. 2” are being officially launched this year for the homecoming 2014 and apart from the band they feature lots of recitations from well known scholars and Burnisians, including a special guest appearance from The First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond. The blood-stirring video for the first track on Volume 1 “Killiecrankie” has been having great success on You Tube and social media sites.

The Court of Equity have performed at many festivals including The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and recently they have performed a sell out concert at The Brunton Theatre. On a corporate level they have performed for many famous companies including the Microsoft Burns Supper and the Highland Hospice. They have played at many of Scotland’s most exclusive and prestigious venues such as the Edinburgh International Conference centre, Lennoxlove House, Prestonfield House and many more. The Court of Equity twice played at the International Robert Burns Conference in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow and played at Wellwood House, Irvine at an event held in honour of the late G Ross Roy, who was widely regarded as the world’s foremost authority on Robert Burns. The Court of equity singer Douglas M Hunter is also the author of “Hunters’ Illustrated History of the Family, Friends and Contemporaries of Robert Burns”; a book which was acclaimed world-wide by Burns experts for bring a wealth of new light to the works of Robert Burns.  The band’s piper David Murray was the mastermind behind the renovation of Burns’s mother’s grave in Bolton, East Lothian for the year of homecoming. 

Douglas McQueen Hunter is a musician and prolific songwriter with many commercially recorded works.  

He has two solo albums available: “Ghosts”, which is a mix of celtic, rock, folk and trance and “In the Dead of Night”, which is a more mainstream Americana, country-rock album. He is currently working on a third album with friend and top producer Greg Friel, which is to be released in 2015.

Douglas McQueen Hunter is the singer, front-man, and guitarist of the well-known Glasgow based Scottish folk-rock band, The Picts, with whom he has played to thousands of audiences at home and abroad. With The Picts he has performed at festivals such as The Interceltique Festival of Lorient, Brittany; T in the Park, Scotland’s biggest music festival; and the Glasgow George Square Hogmanay Bash, playing in front of forty thousand people.

Douglas plays a wide range of concert types from folk gigs and celtic-rock concerts to mainstream rock and Americana shows. He has honed his skills as a performer and front-man over many years with The Picts and various other bands.

Douglas also co-founded an acoustic version of The Picts called The Court of Equity which focuses on the works of Robert Burns. He appears on their new albums “Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect” (The Songs and Poems of Robert Burns), Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 singing seven songs on each album. Douglas co-produced the albums with the talented Greg Friel, with whom he is working on his third solo album.

Douglas is also qualified genealogist (PGdip- StrathclydeUni), a Third Dan in Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu, martial-arts coach, and fully qualified GP Referral Personal Trainer. He is author of “Hunters’ Illustrated History of the Family, Friends and Contemporaries of Robert Burns”, a book which his father, well known Scottish artist Colin Hunter McQueen, conceived, designed, and beautifully illustrated with over six hundred drawings. Douglas researched and wrote the text. Over three hundred parish records were discovered in the research, bringing new light to the studies of Robert Burns and also correcting errors compounded over generations by biographer after biographer of Burns. Colin’s research and illustrations also brought to light faces of Burns’s friends which had been unknown in previous biographical works. The book was highly acclaimed by the world’s foremost scholars of Burns.
