Principles Of Life

With abundant gratitude to the Source of Life, the seeds of this High Holy Day music session began years ago as we began to incorporate more instrumentation into this season of meaningful prayer at our Jewish Community of Greater Stowe. The music took beautiful shape during the 5783/2022 holidays. Recording felt like a must. One Saturday night rehearsal and one full Sunday of recording, those seeds germinated into a beautiful flower. Editing and mastering ensued, and here is the final product.


This album is meant to inspire a sense of reverence, joy, and wonder in the interconnection of all life.  This is evoked in the connection among the musicians: in the rhythm and horn sections’ symbiosis, the mother/daughter harmonizing on Avinu Malkeinu, the resonant vocals on Achat Sha’alti, the call of the shofar, and the togetherness among vocalists, but above all, through the utter joy the musicians created on that day, and every time we come together to play in harmony with the Creator of All.  Thank you to each of the incredible musicians for your time and talents.

Water provides life. From the rain, the dew, the ocean, water heals and holds, and sings so many songs through us. I am grateful to the waters for being such a teacher, and invite you to honor them with this song.

The hebrew at the end is the traditional prayer said for a Mikveh, ritual immersion or bath:

Barukh atah Adonay Eloheynu ruach ha-olam, asher kidshanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu al ha-t'vilah.

Blessed are you, source of creation,  of the universe, who sanctifies us through mitzvot and has shown us immersion.
